Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Posted by Becky, Volunteer Mentor @becsbuddy, Feb 19, 2020

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Let’s keep going!! I’ll never know what week it is, but that’s ok, because we’ll just keep going. Wouldn’t it be interesting to figure out how far we’ve walked since March. Like, @lioness, have you walked all the way to Texas to see @fiesty76 ? And did she cook something good for you?! And, maybe if @jakedduck1 told us what state he’s in, we could all walk to his house for one of his gourmet meals! But, I guess it will have to be virtually since we can’t really go anywhere. Darn! Guess I’ll just keep on walking around here. 😥

It appears we may get rain/snow mix here on Sunday and then again the middle of next week. I am done with this weather however I won't give up walking. If anything I want to walk in the warmth of the sun🌞Where do I need to walk to😂

Everyone is welcome to walk to my house in Central Florida. We have had unusually warm weather this spring, but today we have a respite. It’s only 73 now (10:30 EST) and the sun is shining brightly. I had my usual 30 minute walk around the neighborhood and waved to my fellow walkers from across the street. Everyone is being super conscious of crossing street if we approach another walker so we don’t pass too closely. Have a great day everyone!

70's are really the best! We all deserve some of those warm and moderate temps, more important, let's all stay well. Have a great day!

@jude07 I agree, it will be nice when we finally get more warmth where I am too, in NH. Today the temperature is 58° and they are saying we may have a little snow over the weekend. I sure do not need that.
Yesterday was perfect for walking, I think the temp was right around 60°. I walk every other day, that's all that my hip will take, and do my bike on alternate days, so today is a bike day.

How about everyone comes to Maui?. I can fit in several sleeping bags and there are 3 real spare beds. Unfortunately the island is closed and you have to quarantine for 14 days, so perhaps not so great. But the temperature is good at 79 today.
