Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@funcountess Ha. They nearly killed me once with a colonoscopy! I am not joking!
@lilypaws Sorry about your sister but perservarence on her part may prove him wrong . I wouldnt give up you never know how the body will react .
I believe you. When my mothers husband had one the doctor punched a hole in his colon. He had to spend 5 days in the hospital.
Also the sedative can be hard on your kidneys, and heart.
Naturally the medical profession will not tell you that.
That would be bad for business.
This happened at a well known hospital in l.a. the doctor, well, I would imagine he is retired now.

@funcountess Yes, I was overdosed and ended up in the ambulance and taken to emergency. The Dr there wanted to know what I was 'on'. They had to pump me full of antedote meds all day and I thought my head would explode. it was awful. I said never again.
Yes, I can believe that, the sedatives used are an unknown equasation meaning everyone is different, and doctors really do not ⎌know how an individual will respond.
It’s like playing “Russian Roulette “.
It’s also hard on the kidneys and heart.
I have a picture, it’s a man standing between 2 doors one door says “DAMMED IF YOU DO, and the other door says DAMMED IF YOU DON,T
Kind of unsettling,but true.

@funcountess The problem was that they couldn't get me into the twilight zone and so they kept pumping more stuff into me. They never did get me into that twilight zone and afterwards they sent me home and told me I must eat, which was crazy. I collapsed in the street. I am only a small person and the emergency Dr couldn't believe what they had used. Happily, I am still here! I also know 3 people who had their colon ruptured and one of them died. She was only 42 years old, so that test shouldn't be taken likely.
I haven't done my walk today and I'm feeling guilty. I think I will have a cup of tea and try and walk.
@pollyanne.. Oh my goodness, that's really scary. I'm glad you are doing well now. My friend 's sister had a terrible experience too. My experience was ok, but I didn't want another one, I asked my gastrointestinal doctor what alternatives are out there and we agreed on Cologuard. Fortunately everything came back OK. Have you had another procedure after that one?
I don’t know anything about this issue, but I would pursue a second opinion to either confirm what your doctor is doing or give you other options to consider. My friend has this type of medical history and she worries a lot. Good luck and stay well.
No I haven't and I hope I don't have to. Is that the same as a Colorectal test. In the UK they call it the poo test. I have that quite regularly. I don't think they are giving colonoscopies as much as they used. I think they sometimes do an MRI scan but I am claustraphobic so I don't fancy that either. I know someone in the UK who had tht and she said they only put her in the tube up to her chest or a bit lower. That would be alright.
@becksbuddy I'm worried that Becky is going to get cross again. Sorry Becky. We are having a wet day here today and I haven't been walking. I did have a nap though and that can't be bad. I hope you had a lovely Memorial Day and could go on one of those beautiful walks near you with the mountain views. That is inspirational.
