Leaky gut?

Posted by nanceedee @nanceedeefeperi, Jan 26, 2018

Hello, I’m hoping to connect with others who may be able to Help with some answers with what I’m dealing with. I have fibromyalgia and am gluten intolerant. I also have eczema that has spread over different parts of my body. My dr prescribed a steroid to help with the eczema, however I am extremely itchy with a rash on arms
Legs torso. Dr thinks it’s all related but I’m not sure
I have had bouts with heart burn s d constipation/diarrhea. I’ve been reading up about leaky gut syndrome and think I have many of
The symptoms. Any tips as to how I can go about this would be appreciated. I’m in the ER now because of severe fatigue feeling faint s d shallow breathing.

"Leaky gut" seems to be fairly tropical at the moment. I wonder if the attention is warranted.

No I haven't. In the stage of going through numerous tests to rule out things at the VA. Doing my own preliminary research.

@eslavik1 Good for you! I think it is so important to be on top of your medical health as much as possible. Physicians are people just like everyone else and though I have the utmost respect for their profession, they can't always be the experts in everything. Being your own advocate is always the best backup when it comes to your health and body. I like to say, "I am the one that knows me best!"

Is there any research on the role of leaky gut and rheumatoid arthritis? Or any research on how to actually heal a leaky gut? I know there’s a lot written about the autoimmune protocol diet. Is there a definitive AIP, s there seem to be several variations out there?

I developed an autoimmune disorder about 4 years ago and ended up in the hospital for 4 months almost paralyzed. It’s been a long battle but I’m at least back to walking (with a walker) and able to care for myself.

I started having digestive issues and an itching band around my midriff about 2 years ago as well as muscle problems in stomach area and it just kept getting worse. After a ton of tests, they don’t really know why. I’ve researched endlessly and leaky gut is the only thing that makes sense with all my symptoms. You can almost see the effects in real time when I eat certain foods or don’t take supplements and follow program. About 30-45 minutes after eating or drinking certain things my muscles start to spasm, cramp (deep cramps), and my nerves go crazy. My hands draw up like claws and sometimes my leg muscles lock so hard I can’t bend them or move for a few minutes.

The problem is that so far I can’t get a doctor to even acknowledge that leaky gut is a thing much less run tests or help me with it. Gastro told me “no, that’s not possible “, did colonoscopy and gave me acid reducers. How do you find help for this?

I’m gluten-free, dairy free and I’m starting to cut out other things. Certain chocolates cause it, coffee does it, gluten does it. Sometimes it happens when I haven’t eaten but have a lot of stomach acid. Sometimes I don’t even know what caused it but when I get lax about my supplements and my diet and decide to cheat, it’s almost a guarantee.

Sugar raises internal inflamation. I follow The Yeast Connection Handbook, by William Crooke, Md. It's tied to leaky gut and the yeast which resides in our gut which puts out waste transferring throught the lthinning gut linings and into our bloodstream. I semi follow the maintanence plan, basically all I eliminate totally is processed sugar and I eat gluten in moderation. The hard part is the 2-3 month detox to starve the yeast colonies in your body . During that period zero sugar, processed or natural and zero carbs. This detox worked for me, the internal nervie sensations stopped and that was 3 years ago. It's a quick and simple read based on what yeast is doing to our bodies. Sugar, among other foods feed yeast.
I don't have muscle spasm or deep cramps, however nerves all over my body went crazy for years: stinging, zapping and itching. A doctor will look at you but can't "see" how you are feeling. These sensations were driving me insane, sleep was fitful at best and I was sleep deprived as the sensations were severe.
Intresting that you mentioned an itching band around your midriff. You don't mention a rash, but I also have a form of eczema, Grover's disease which targets the front and back torso area, for me especially around the midriff front and back.
Arthritis can make your hands draw up like claws, arthritus is inflamation in the joints. Leaky gut raises inflamation in the body. Eczema is also an inflamatory disease.
I haven't had food testing for allergies, have you looked into that?

It’s hard to explain because most of the time my hands are normal and no cramps if I’m careful with my diet and take supplements but if I don’t and then I eat an offending food, it’s almost like an allergic reaction; I have the cramps and nerves going crazy so I don’t feel like it’s arthritis. I have been checked for common food allergies and none.

When you search, use "intestinal permeability" instead of leaky gut syndrome.
