Leaking now thirteen years later

I haven’t been on a forum since approximately 2013 when I elected to have a robotic prostectomy at The University of Pennsylvania with one of their top doctors. At the time My PSA was about 4.5 and I had a Gleason seven. I had cancer in all four quadrants. The doctor recommended that I have it removed, or I would have real problems about this time. My father had prostate cancer at approximately age 55 and I did believe I would get it. He had his prostate removed, but a very small part of the cancer was not contained. He did live until 98 and did not die from prostate cancer.

I had my prostate removed and have always been cancer free. Blessed to have no real side effects, and with Viagra, I’ve always had a great sex life. I’m 67, healthy, good shape, go to the gym every day. I’m starting to have some leakage, I’ve been using pads, and I find that I am using five or six per day.

I assume this is normal in many ways, I’m curious what is new these days and can be done to either stop this or help with this? Or is this something that I am just going to have to deal with? Thanks for your thoughts!

I’ve resolved the leaking issue I think. I feel kind of dumb, but it looks like it was a urinary tract infection that I’ve been dealing with for the past month. I don’t know why I didn’t approach my primary doctor about this first. I rarely drink, and was in Jamaica for about 10 days at the beginning of the month and drank heavily. I came home, very dehydrated and focused on rehydration when home. All of this put some pretty heavy stress on my system, which I think had an infection.

How do I know? I had a knee replacement last March, and when I go to the dentist now, I have to take very high-powered antibiotics the day of the appointment. I had an appointment and took the meds the end of last week. I’m now bone dry. Was using 4 to 5+ pads a day. I did take an STD test in the Fall and have not been intimate since then. So it’s not that.

I’m having my other knee replaced On Monday and will be loaded up with antibiotics in the process. That will certainly take care of any infections in me.

This has been a good opportunity To check back in with the community. I was blessed and lucky to have a great doctor and catch my cancer early. While, I did have a fair amount of cancer in me, it was all contained.

To those who have Prostate cancer treatment And it was successful, life will go on. In some ways, I don’t think about it very often, but there is a little piece of me I think that always does. I’m 67, and very lucky to be cancer free, dry, And with ED meds, enjoy a great sex life. Best luck to everyone.

When I had my right knee replaced six years ago, they had me take antibiotics before going to the dentist, every time. When I had my left knee replaced, they said don’t bother that anymore. It isn’t really beneficial.. Had my hip replaced and they said the same thing. Been to the dentist at least three times since then, no antibiotics no problem.

Had my surgery in 2010 its come back four times since then. It’s because I have a genetic problem and the reason I got prostate cancer at 62, And my brother got it at 77 since has no genetic problem. Just a father that died from it. Have you had genetic testing to see if you might have a genetic problem since you had it a little bit younger than average? It’s covered by insurance.
