Lasting lump on bottom from falling years ago

Posted by rdrew31 @rdrew31, 2 days ago

Hi all! I don't know if this is the right group to seek advice for my issue, but almost 6 years ago I fell down wooden stairs hard enough to leave a lasting bump on my bottom. It's not painful or huge, but it's big enough to see through leggings or a bathing suit - which is starting to bother me as I get older. I haven't sought medical help as I don't know if removing or shrinking the lump is possible. If anyone has had a similar experience or any ideas of what it could be please let me know!! Also, if I do decide to get it checked should I seek a dermatologist or my general physician? Thank you!

I don't know if this helps or is same. I was doing a Sprint Triathlon about a year ago. I slid off the dock on the start of swim and notice strange feeling on back of my legs. I started swimming and knew there was a problem. There were barnacles on the dock no one knew about and it totally ribbed apart back on my legs.

After being treated at Mayo and several shots and antibiotics took a long time to heal. But were I had the injury I still have hardened bumps. I like you don't know what to do about it so I have an upcoming appointment with my dermatologist (see them once a year) and will discuss.

Most PCP will refer dermatology issues to dermatologist. But yours might be something different. It sounds quite large. Is it discolored? Could have been a blood clot or injury to muscle. So I am in no way a medical person nor should we try to be on MCC.

I would say see your primary car doctor and let him look at it. He can determine if needs to go to a specialist. But I would not ignore it as could be something that needs attention. Only a medical doctor who sees you and your bump can determine that.

I would suggest a dermatologist consult.
Some soft tissue or muscle trauma could cause
a hematoma that calcifies.
Better to be safe and get checked. Sometimes an
X-ray or ultrasound can help with diagnosis.

Yes! I have one too! I fell down the stairs in 2018 and have a huge hump. Apparently I must have broken my tailbone and now have a calcified spot of bone there. It showed up recently on a PET scan. I am now having nerve issues and am starting to see PT/OT about the neuropathy so it has recently come into discussion about whether this is playing a part because I may have shifted the way I carried myself because of the break.

Thanks for your reply! It's not discolored, just a lump under the skin. It definitely could be an injury to the muscle, I fell quite hard lol! I was thinking it could have been a hematoma of some sort but since it hasn't gone down in a few years, I've sort of ruled that out. I'm going to make the time to see a doctor about it - thank you for your advice and I hope your dermatologist can help you with your issue!
