Lap Band Surgery for weight loss

Posted by edmeek1 @edmeek1, Dec 23, 2018

I have had a lap band with great results for 8 years and hear now this procedure is rarely used because of complications. Should I have it removed?

Colleen, could you tell me what symptoms suggest a problem? I have had none but want to be on watch.

I have had no problems in 20 plus years.

I had lap band surgery in 2005. The next five years were the rockiest of my life.

Let’s just say that I would never put my body through this again. I almost died on the operating table.

I did lose over 127 pounds. But then the band got infected and I had to have it removed. It was so bad that I couldn’t even swallow water. And I put 161 pounds back on. Here we are 20 years later and I’m now looking at the Roux en Y

Hi, @sandym65 - just wanted to check in and see how you are doing. After you had the lap band removed, did you start another weight loss/maintenance strategy instead?
