I am about to have a decompression laminectory between L3/L4. I have had 2 TKR with the past 3 years and my knees are in constant pain. Can anyone tell me what the recovery is like for a month after surgery? Can you drive? Do you have to lie flat all the time? Any tips to make sure I do everything right so this pain is gone. I have a buldging disc pressing the nerve and on the opposite side a pouch of arthritis. Thanks for any info and tips

Hello everyone,
I have posted some other questions about my laminectomy recovery and had some great responses. So, I thought I would ask this one too.

I have all sorts of ongoing post surgery issues like nerve pain, spasms, sacrum pain, etc. I was getting pretty discouraged, as I am now 5 weeks post surgery. However earlier this week I felt like I turned a corner and was really getting better. Unfortunately as of yesterday I believe I have the flu or some other bug.

Now all of my symptoms have come back and I feel pretty awful.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, did your symptoms get better once you got over the flu or whatever you had?

Any comments are very appreciated!

@joelhoward1092 - how are you now almost 2 years out from your laminectomy?

@lisalucier Not great. Unfortunately the laminectomy didn’t resolve much. I have since had a spinal cord stimulator implanted. That was almost 6 months ago with no real results. I continue to get various injections with some positive results. Physical therapy honestly does more for me than anything. I am certainly more active than I was a year or so ago. Some days are still pretty rough, but others aren’t too bad. I will keep grinding until the good outweighs the bad.
