What bloodtests do doctors do to measure the symptoms of long covid?

I have been without smell since July 2021 after Covid. Someone suggested I try liquid zinc. No help after two months. Have no hope of recovery since my neurosurgeon told me it is unlikely after all this time. But, could be worse, I guess.

Thank you for that information. I’ve been told by my PCP that I have long covid and my symptoms are no taste or smell since December of 2022. I’ve been getting and have had 4 Stellate Ganglion Block Injections to regain those senses and so far it’s only slightly slightly helped. After the injection, most often the next day, I might be able to smell my coffee grounds in the morning, but after about 4 weeks, it diminishes again. It’s very frustrating and at this point, I’m beginning to think it’s not from Long Covid…

Isn’t it frustrating not knowing?

I have had taste issues from Covid (taste and smell returned), and also some years ago taste distortion that I believe was caused fo B12 deficiency. You have probably been tested for that, but if not, it’s something to check.
It took several months of supplementing B12, but my taste finally returned to almost normal.

I’m struggling with different lingering Covid damage, but I can relate to taste and smell loss. It’s terrible.

I too lost my taste and smell in December of 2022 due to Covid. I am currently trying Stellate Ganglion Block injections, of which I’ve had 4 and will be having a 5th on August 18th. These injections are put into your parasympathetic nerves in your neck area and are done by first looking with an ultrasound and then injecting into the area. It is safe and I’ve had no side effects, only the side they inject you on, your eyelid will droop for a few hours and your nasal passages get very stuffed up on the side of injection; also for a few hours. I would give it a try. I have mine done at Northwestern Hospital in our downtown Chicago location at the Pain Management Clinic. It did give me more salty, sweet and sour on my tongue, but it doesn’t seem to last more than 4 weeks. I’ve yet to taste any flavors or smell much of anything, but I’m staying with it because it brings me some hope. I do wish you all the best.

I just got my taste and smell back in February. Have you tried eating a little more salt? what about the Nicotine Patches? Be careful - my guts went wacko too. stay on top of that.....it is ugly!
