L4-S1 post 5yr revision now with rod out of place-osteopenia

Hello I am 5 yrs post a revision of L3-S1 revision, 2 yrs ago during exercise a rod popped out of place and has been pressing out against my skin. I have now developed a seroma around it.
Also recently diagnosed with osteopenia, along with pain in both legs after the rod snapped out of place and I developed bilateral ischiofemoral impingement.
Now the surgeon wants to fix the rod out of place and essentially revise all of it-I'm worried about this making things worse with the osteopenia and loose hardware already identified from the past surgery and the newly developed seroma.
I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has had similar issues.

I don't have similar issues, but I did have Osteoporosis and went through extensive back surgery. Should your surgeon feel that your bones integrity is an issue, there are drugs that build bone such as Forteo and Evenity. These drugs are normally indicated for people that have severe Osteoporosis. ( They do have warnings about the potential of some severe effects.)

I was placed on a generic version of Forteo for over year prior to surgery and remained on it about 10 months post surgery.

Evenity is a newer drug and it builds bone more quickly.

I wish you all the best!

Thank you Nadine, I really appreciate the feedback. The seroma that has developed around the rod that is pushing out against my skin is accelerating the time line. I will most definitely pose the question.
Thank you! Suzanne
