L3-4 / 4-5 in Mongolia
I have traveled from the U.S. to Mongolia for 2 level fusion on July 21.
World renoun top spine surgeon who trains other surgeons around the globe, so I am confident with his ability. However I am concerned about PT once I return to the States and how all that works out, also if there are any types of issues post surgery would my doc here even be interested in seeing me? His experience was limited, but said “he was sure he could do this procedure…only open surgery, my response was “thank you but no thank you.” Whereas my Mongolian Dr. only does robotic with very small incisions. His name is Nurbeyk Baban.
So damn long just to get an office visit in the U.S.!

Why do you went to go to the most out of the way place on earth to have spine surgery? You must have a lot of money but not using it wisely in my opinion. Don’t know your age so don’t know your insurance situation. Anything your Mongolian doc orders for you will not work in the states. You’ll need a U.S. doc to order PT. This might help you out from my perspective and thought line. You may be a native of Mongolia and receive free healthcare but the surgery can change your life one way or another. Be safe and be aware of what you’re buying.

Your L3 is at a -4 and your L4 is a -5? Ok, I’m in similar shape my L1 and L2 being i the -4 plus range. I’m interested in your journey how you found this surgeon. Were you on Prolia or any other bone building drugs? What type of surgery will you have?
What symptoms do you have as well. I live part time in Mérida and will get a second opinión in Houston.
Hi, my operation was a fusion between my L3 and L4. As well as my L4 and L5. Both discs were ground down.
You can go to Youtube and search for TLIF which is the initials for the operation itself. It shows a full demonstration of exactly what goes on.
Thank you! I will check it out.
I am actually in the hospital as I compose this reply, my advice for foreign travel as I am finding out in reality is that you better speak the language because communication or lack of will make or break! You can be taken completely wrong and not even realize it.
However, my surgery was robotic, took five hours, I have 34 staples in nine separate small incisions. Recovery is not easy so expect some pain as well as
comfort.
It has been six days since surgery and doc says probably two more
I traveled to Mongolia a couple of times to visit my girlfriend and she just retired, her closes friends is the mother to the Presidential Advisor of Mongolia. So she has a circle of prominent friends, one other of her mom friends is mom to a world class back surgeon who trains other spine doctors all over the world, So I met him 1.5 yrs ago, did some research and now it’s done.
All robotic, largest cut 1” and 9 others 1/2”. Hope all helps out.

I had this done & no problems but if you have Scoliosis as I do ~ you will likely need additional fusion.
I agree with you on this ! ! !

Please let us know how you're doing. A friend cashed in his retirement to travel to Germany decades ago for artificial disc replacement - it had not been approved in the US yet. He was in so much pain he had to use a cane to walk but now remains pain free today. He is a nurse, did all the research and then contacted medical tourism. He raves about the experience and the total cost, month stay in adjacent hotel for PT & post op visits, flying his family (parents & wife) twice to visit him, all was less than $10,000 (years ago). There were many phone calls and imaging reports discussed in advance. Germany is far more advanced in many medical procedures than the US.
I hope you're recovering well and your pain will be relieved.
