KN95 masks and indoor swimming pools

Posted by pled @pled, Dec 24, 2024

I will be touring Hearst's Castle next month (built by William Randolph Hearst on his ranch on the central California coast). It is filled with valuable art and furnishings and the tours are guided and closely monitored. There is an indoor swimming pool that is part of the tour, and I don't think it will be possible for me to separate from the group to avoid it. I will be wearing a mask for the entire tour, and I am wondering if it will offer me any protection from potential MAC infection from the indoor pool environment. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Lucky you, it's a fabulous experience. Not sure how much you need to worry about the pool. As I recall it was unheated when I was there, so unlikely to give off steam/vapors. Even so, if you decide to mask, you'll be protected. Enjoy!
