Can anyone tell me the best way to taper off Klonopin? I feel it does nothing for my anxiety

I will be 73 in 3 weeks.
I had no withdrawal effects because of how slowly I tapered. I'm not saying you need to taper for 2 years. I was just explaining how I chose to taper. I don't understand how someone can take a medication for 30 years and want off of it so quickly.
You should taper according to your physician's instructions but don't be surprised if you have withdrawal effects. If you do it's probably because you're tapering too quickly.

@jakedduck1 How exactly did you taper? I really can’t deal with the side effects I went through. Can you outline your tapering timeline? I would find that interesting.

I have just started a hyperbolic taper to wean off 40 mg of Citalapram tat I’ve been on 25 years. I decided to go to a psychiatric nurse practitioner to discuss a very slow taper. I would strongly suggest you should do.

I am on 1 - 1.25mg Clonazepam and I am planning to get off it completely or at least to go to 0.5 tapering it 0.125 every month if I feel stable.

Hello, @yoshimo - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Has clonazepam not worked well for you, or has it had some side effects that have been difficult?

Yes. Under my primary care provider and my neurologist. Begin in late summer of 2017. Completed in January 2018. No problems. I was afraid. I had a seizure risk from the withdrawal and a craniotomy done in 2014. I have never gone back to this class of drugs.

How did you taper off. My dr. is recommending a water taper disolving a .5 mg tablet in 200 mg water. I read that it doesn't disolve well so the doses would be inconsistent? Have you tried it or know of any one who had and how it worked for them?

20+ years on klon. I became very anxious lately and I am not willing to go higher on benzos, so I will be buying a scale and start tapering slowly 10% at a time for as long as it takes.

I am on the same medication. Have not stopped taking it because I only take it once a day. But I applaud you, I don't know what you mean by weird?

@gunshy I started off with cutting them in half and cutting that half. so if it was when 1 mg I would cut that in half then cut that half and half so I would take .75 mg for 2 weeks then go to .50 for 2 weeks then go to .25 for 2 weeks or more if you have to and then get off it.

@lisalucier Clonaz does not work for me any longer when I take it for sleep. It helps me with panic attacks 0.5 and extreme periods of high anxiety.
