Klonipin for 18 years - stopped working - how to safely wean off

Posted by d45fy26 @d45fy26, Dec 26, 2023

I was put on klonipin for GAD and mostly for chronic insomnia. My dose is one mg at night. I had been pleased that I was able to maintain on that same dose for so long, until recently it suddenly stopped working! I’m on my seventh week of struggling to get bits and pieces of sleep. Many nights I get none! I am assuming the klonipin has lost its effectiveness, and at 65 yo I do not want to increase my dose. I’m on lexapro 10 mg although my doctors have urged me to increase to 20 mg - a more therapeutic dose. I was on Paxil (for 15 years) 45 mg and it took me over six months to wean off of it. I did not want to go through that again. Since klonipin has stopped working, I’m wondering the best method to safely wean off? Any suggestions for sleep in the meantime? Chronic insomnia been my battle for 30 years. I have suffered from MDD, PTSD, social and general anxiety disorder for most of my life. My PCP is not helpful! And I no longer live near my psychiatrist. I would appreciate any help! Thank you in advance!
