Kidney transplant: Laying on stomach okay?
Hi Kidney Transplant patients,
With the kidney transplant located on the front of our bodies, how do you feel about sleeping on your stomach? Also, I had an MRI of my breasts yesterday and needed to lay on my stomach for 15 minutes in the machine. I was nervous the whole time! What is your understanding? Can we lay on our stomachs with the kidney transplant on the front? I want to make sure that I am not doing any harm. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks everyone! 😊

@hello1234 I have not been told not to lay on my stomach, but really don’t like to anyway due to neck issues and after many years of huge, painful PKD kidneys. It would probably be easier now without the evil twins! I had to lay that way for imaging prior to transplant, but cannot remember having to post. You could send your post TX team a message to check and please let us know!
They suggested to see a GI doctor, it’s to the point I’ll do that today , thanks
Hi @dbd You mentioned that they suggested for you to see a GI doctor today. What are your symptoms? How did your doctor visit go?
Congratulations on your new kidney!! I am a side/stomach sleeper. I was told it wouldn’t hurt the kidney. Sometimes I can lay that way and sometimes it is uncomfortable so I don’t. My body lets me know when it’s too much. But I would still check with the team just to be sure.
Thanks so much @kayb and @jennifer0726 It's good to know that you were not told that sleeping on your stomach was a bad thing. (I couldn't remember if that was a no-no or not). I portaled my transplant nurse after you suggested it Jennifer and she said it's okay as long as it doesn't cause discomfort. I was uncomfortable in the MRI on my stomach for the MRI of my breasts, but I just wanted the test to be over so I tolerated it for the 15 minutes to get it over with. Afterwards, I panicked that maybe I was not supposed to lay on my stomach so I quick went on and reached out to my favorite Mayo Connect family to see if they could calm me down....and you did! Thank you for always being there for me 😊
I’am shopping for one now
@dbd, I want to Welcome you to Mayo Connect. I see that you recently become a member, and have already entered this discussion and met some members in discussing their post kidney transplant issues.
I'm a liver and kidney transplant recipient. I have been treated by Gastroenterologist (GI) , Liver Specialists, and Nephrologists over the course of my health journey. I see that you are currently searching for a GI.
@dbd, Who are They? Why have "They suggested that you see a GI"? What brings you to Connect?
