Told I had kidney disease at stage 3
My EGFR is 49. I was told that stage 3a is not serious for a 76 year old guy. When I was told it was stage three I was alarmed. What happened to stages 1 and 2?
Any others have this same issue?

@dgr8im Greetings!
I have brought my gfr up from 52 to 64 but it took over a year. Also creatinine went from 1.1 to .89.
Mostly drinking 50 oz of water every single day.
NO aspirin, advil or Voltaren. Only Tylenol if I really have to.
NO sodas.
NO canned food (full of salt);
NO frozen food (full of salt);
Low protein. Don't need protein at every meal.
These I find are easily achievable.
I am 75 years old. I don't know if the GFR will hold but we'll see.

3 ReactionsOh WOW! To have a mentor like you! Gives me the courage to press on! My kidney book teaches me to make my system less acidic with plant based protein versus animal protein which taxes kidneys. Also to stay hydrated and avoid processed foods..DONE and doing (ever since I learned this!) Guess I wish my doctor Would agree more with my book in stating that egfr can improve and dialysis can be avoided:). I certainly don’t mind living a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life! I am a believer and this morning I was asking in prayer for someone’s experience:)). Thank you, too, for my answered prayer. ENCOURAGED ONCE AGAIN!🙏

Hi! With your message, it also got me thinking bout aspirin. Though I have also learned how NSAIDS are harmful ( so I also avoid at all costs) my doctor has me on a baby aspirin daily regimen. I have noticed, due my new plant based protein diet, my blood pressure is also lowering. Something to ask my doctor, but if you have any insight…by all means!! 🙂

1 ReactionYour G.P wasn't paying attention to the results of your annual physical and probably did not check for your Egfr. Most don't. Why bother with an annual physical??
