@jimhd How wonderful that you fill your life with a variety of activities. That is so important! Depression is the one thing that will not get better with bed rest. Your life style shows great wisdom, Jim. Thanks for allowing us to get to know you better, you are an asset to our group here at Mayo Connect. Teresa
(PS I like what you said, “depression doesn’t seem to live by any rules.” So true!)

Georgette12 posted 2 hours ago that she had taken 4 valium and was going to sleep. I’m worried about her!! I never heard of anyone taking that many valium and surviving. Please someone check on her. I don’t know how to get any emergency message through!

@johnhans I am sorry to hear of the difficulty you are having with depression and the isolating effects of health problems. Transportation is a serous problems for seniors. Is there any senior transportation in your vicinity? What about NAMI support groups? If these are not possible, you might try some “book-therapy.” Do some reading by authors who specialize in depression. David Burns comes to mind as one author who writes about changing your thoughts so that your mood will change. Let’s hear what some others are reading, Can you suggest some authors or books about dealing with depression, @georgette12 @jimhd @johnjames @rspaulling @safetyshield?

A good book I have read and given to my soldiers : 1. Night Falls Fast By: Dr Kay Redfield Jamison. 2. Living with Loss, by Dr Gloria Horsley. 3.Rule Number Two. BY. Dr Heidi Squier Kraft- she also talks about her own deep depression after coming home from Iraq as a Dr Of Psychology . 4. Suicide as Psychache. by: Dr Edwin Shneidman- the book I have ever read in 50 years on depression and suicide and how to help those-who can’t help themselves. JJAMES

How many milligrams of Valium have you taken? I’m concerned as you have a lot of words that are misspelled. I have no idea what some of these words are supposed to be. If you’re in trouble please have someone drive you to the emergency room. Please let us know how you are. Take care.

Gail it depends on how many milligrams she has taken. If she took four 1/2 milligrams she should be okay. I’m not sure how much you’d have to take to cause harm.

I’ll say it again we don’t know how many milligrams she took. Even if she took 4mg. I think she should be alright, but I’m not in the medical field so who knows.
