Just diagnosed with spiculated node in the right upper lobe
I am a 78 yo male. My pulmonarist said it is very specious because it has grown i n size to 1.5 cm.
I will go to Charleston va hospital soon.
He said a biopsby is not require because it is spiculaüted and grown in 1 year.
I will have a pet scan and then minimum invasive surgery to remove it. Chemo is not
off the tabled. i alsohave DVTs in my right leg, which im taking Eliquist. [second time in 12yrs when i had leukemia. ]
In 1966 i was in the Army basic training, while there i came down with pneumonia and coughing up blood. Since then xrays awayed showed a scar. I read that a lung scar can turn maglignant. sorry for ms.

Update on hospital stay from chest pain. I was diagnosed with pneumonia! Spent 5 days in with IV antibiodics. I had a very difficult time just walking to the bathroom.
If this is what it's going to be like, im not looking forward to 3 more rounds of chemo. I dont understand why they cant remove the tumor now instead of waiting 9 weeks to end chemo. Im afraid i might not make it to the end.
@wrmeador, Hopefully you are getting some relief by now. This may be the hardest time you face. Now your docs know more about how you will handle the treatment. We're all a little different, and none of us are routine.
Please be honest with your doctor, in regard to asking the questions over again even if they have been addressed, and what you are thinking and feeling. Those feelings of diminished hope are important to talk about too. It's a hard time, and the recent trips to the hospital haven't helped. Anyone would feel down in that situation. I hope you can get a 'win' soon and feel even just a little better.
How is the pneumonia?
Its been a while since i updated.
I have had 3 chemo rounds and each seemed to be worst than the last. Mostly weakness and some stomach issues. On June 5 im having my second pet scan. My last update was my tumor was 3.8cm.
If the new Update is larger im going to completely break down.
I am so sick of being the one with bad luck. In total ive had 5 cancers.
I'm begining to be not pleasant to be around and feel im never going to get better.
I'm on my 5th cancer, if you count the melanoma in situ. I will be 78 in August. I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in January, 2023. I had been receiving Yervoy and Opdiva immunotherapy until last July and Opdiva alone currently. In January I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Not a metastases. I have been receiving Gemcitabine and Abraxane since February for the pancreas. I only do it 2 times in 3 weeks instead of the formerly recommended 3 in
3 weeks due to the difficulty. I have had to miss one # 2 treatment because I was too wiped out, The interesting news is that the 3 cm mass in my left lower lobe of lungs has all but disappeared. I had a biopsy of mass in rt upper lobe, mediastinal lymph nodes and several spiculated nodules in both lungs last week, should get results in the next few days. My oncologist had told me that the silver lining of the chemo was that it also could work on lung cancer. Just saying there are a lot of different ways to treat this stuff. Don't give up.

So sorry to hear about the pancreatic cancer, cancer does srop for a rest, it finds it's nitch.
i had my second pet scan yesterday and the tumor "significaly is resduced in size" as the Radioologist reported. I will now have surgery and 1 year of immunotherapy.
kakalena take care there is always hope and good surprises in this war.
I had my second cat scan on June 5 and the tumor in my right upper lung is now so small its barely visable on the scan. So, now the will schedule surgery to remove the right lobe, then immunotherapy every month for a year. I feel so relieved and thankful to the VA. They do such a wonderful job i wish the whole country was aware of that.
@wrmeador, I'm glad that you received some positive news, and that the struggle of chemo seems to have provided some benefit. Thinking of you and hoping that you have some better days between now and surgery.
@wrmeador I understand some of what you're going through. Right after I turned 61, I was diagnosed with Advanced prostate cancer, it had leaked out of my prostate via Peri-neural invasion. I was treated with radiation and Hormone therapy for that one. The radiation burned my rectum and I have a burn that won't heal. This caused me to have chronic anemia, so I'm tired all the time. 7 months later I was diagnosed with cancer of my left ureter. I was treated with chemo for that one and lost my left kidney shortly afterwards. I recently had biopsies of my upper right and upper left lungs because I had a 1cm spiculated node in the right lobe and almost a dozen other nodes that were new since August of last year. Two lit up on PET scan, but nothing came back malignant. I have a lot of nodes that they are going to be watching and I have a follow up in 3 months. I am still struggling with many other problems, including heart failure, severe COPD, weight loss and no appetite and no energy to do anything. On top of that I live alone. I have a couple of friends, but no family left to speak of, so I get very lonely. If I end up with lung cancer, I don't believe I'll survive it, given my current conditions. So I understand how you feel. I find help in prayer and meditation. I wish you the best and if you'll allow me, I'll pray for you. Prayers get me through the roughest days.
