Just diagnosed with a 8mm spiculated nodule In Left upper lung

I also have added area of GGO in subpleura . Was a heavy smoker for most of my life and my mother had lung cancer and her mother too . Not a great picture? Any chance it might be benign? Many thanks 😊

@susies215, my heart goes out to you. I'm sure the past couple of years have taken a toll on you physically and mentally. The immunotherapy can offer new hope. It can work wonders. Sometimes a new treatment is just what we need, and that hope is enough to keep us going. Obviously, your body is going through a lot with the mycobacterium abscessus treatments too. Be sure to stay in close contact with your doctors and team regarding any side effects that you're experiencing. Big hugs to you.
Do you have something or someone that you can look to take your mind off all of this?, even just a hobby, a good book or a movie.
Hugs to you.

thoughtprocess @thoughtprocess and @susies215. On March 19th I had chest CT Scan. They found 1cm spiculated node and 3 other nodes in upper right lobe. Two were 4mm and one was 5mm. They weren't there 7 months ago during a previous CT of my lungs. two more 4mm nodes in left upper lobe. My Oncologist said he does not believe the 1cm node is a node at all. He thinks I have an infection. the node sits right behind or on top of blood vessels. He stated a needle biopsy would be too risky since it's still too small for a biopsy. He called the pathologist while I was in his office and presented his opinion. At the end of the call, he told me the pathologist was still convinced it was a spiculated node, but he stands firm it's not. He started me on AMOX/CLAV 875mg and 125mg. He saw me through two previous cancers, so I trust him. He asked me to give the antibiotics a chance. I have had a very productive cough for a couple of weeks. He said if I didn't have a cough, he'd be more concerned. He's ordered another CT in 6 weeks. I asked him point blank, " If he's wrong, will waiting 6 weeks affect my mortality and he said No, it wouldn't." If he's right, however, he believes he's saving me from a very risky biopsy. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you are in a bit of a dilemma. I can just tell you that I was told a spiculated nodule almost always cancer. My Oncologist showed me on my scan and I could see what they mean by spiculated. It looked like little tentacles coming off it. As far as waiting six weeks it probably won’t change anything. It concerns me that he said he would be more worried if you didn’t have a cough. Lung cancer can cause a cough just like an infection can. How long are you on antibiotics for? Usually not for more than a week or two so not sure why you can’t get another CT before 6 weeks. I do understand the location of nodule may make it risky to biopsy if not necessary. It is probably ok to see if infection but just kinda prepare yourself if it is spiculated. Guess I’m just a little guarded cause every time they found something new on me they would say it was probably just inflammation or something and every single time every new thing they have found turned out to be more cancer. Will pray you get good news. I do have medical knowledge as a former Critical Care Nurse for 27 years. Never worked in oncology but know enough to be more scared than most when I see my reports. Reach out if you ever want to talk or vent

I got nodules in my lungs after I contracted COVID. I've had 3 CT scans to check them. No lung cancer. Have to have another check up CT soon. Doctor can tell you if it's cancer

I'm on a twice a day regimen of antibiotics for 1 week. I too asked my Oncologist why do I have to wait 6 weeks before the next CT. His response was to give the " infection " time to clear up. I've had Ct Scans of my lungs every year since I had my 1st cancer in May of 2021. I had a second unrelated cancer in March of 2022. The CT scan from August of 2024 saw only 1 - 4mm node in my right upper lobe. The Scan on 3/19/25 showed 4 nodes total in the right upper lobe, with the largest being what the pathologist said was a 1 cm spiculated node. There were 2 - 4mm nodes and 1- 5mm node as well. My Oncologist showed me different angles including one that seemed to show 2 "legs" coming off the bottom of the larger node. He said he believed these were blood vessels and that I had an infection of some kind. He has been with me through the two previous cancers, and I do trust him. As I said earlier, I asked him point blank if waiting 6 weeks would change my outlook if he was wrong and he replied " It would not." I hope he's right, but I am preparing myself in case he's wrong.

Hope everything works out. Keep me updated when you get your next CT. Hope it’s just an infection

Yes I will have it monitored and measured for any growth .
Thank you for asking. I have also got a ovarian nodule thats under investigation but in the UK it takes Months to get any results as it’s a free health care system. Of course if you’re wealthy you have options. … I just have to think positively but it doesn’t come naturally for me

@thoughtprocess, Sorry to hear that you are dealing with both issues. Hopefully you can get some answers soon. It seems that 'waiting' is an issue everywhere, but I certainly understand that it can be longer in some countries. I'm in the US, and can get into some specialties right away, while others can take months to get an appointment. But I know that I am fortunate to receive results nearly right away when I have a radiology test, CT or ultrasound.
Thinking positively can be challenging for all of us. Our natural tendency can be to go to the worst case first. In reality things rarely turn out just how we imagine. I usually try to keep my mind busy when I know I have a pending test result or scan. Wishing you the best, keep us updated as you learn more.

Hi Jef, my name is Melisa, nice to meet you, and I hope you're well. I apologize for my English; I'm from Argentina. You must be in your second or third week of antibiotics, if I'm not mistaken? Google Translate is also failing me. I was wondering if I could bother you by sending you a private message. Would that be too much trouble? Does the forum allow it? Sorry, but I'm not familiar with the process, although I read them all the time. Thank you in advance. Sending you a hug and good health.

Hi Melissa. I am perfectly okay with you sending me a private message, although I too am not sure how that works. I do believe that if you start the message with @guyjeff123, it will show up as a private message to me. So please, if you want to send me a message that way.
God bless and keep you.

@susies215 Thank you for your reply to my previous comment on the nodes that were found in my upper right lobe, which includes the 1cm spiculated node, and several more 4 and 5 mm nodes in the same upper right Node. The tentacles you mention that are coining off of your spiculated node sound like the picture rom the CT scan of my lungs on 3/16/25. My Oncologist called them blood vessels and that is the main reason he said he doesn't think it's a Node. Sounds like your Oncologist agrees with the pathology report and my doctor is at odds with the Pathologist that read mine. I met with my Cardiologist yesterday, and he seems to agree with the Pathologist. That said he ordered a new CT Scan with Contrast this time on 4/15, which is less than 2 weeks away. So, I don't have to wait 5 or 6 weeks for another CT Scan for confirmation of whether this is a Node or an Infection. He said he would call my Oncologist to explain this. I am more comfortable with this now. BTW, I finished my 1 week course of antibiotics, so any infection should be gone by the time they do my next CT Scan. Thank you for caring and God bless and heal you from your cancers and other health issues.
