Jitteriness when increasing dose of Mirtazapine 30 magi

Posted by ellemccope @ellemccope, Jul 29, 2023

I started Mirtazapine on June 13 at 15 mg, at bedtime. Then, titrated to 22.5 on July 5th. I experienced some uneasiness and anxiousness and felt very tired during the titration process. I have now titrated to 30 mg as of July 23, and I am experiencing pronounced jitteriness. Has anyone else experienced this. If so, how long did it last?

In my post, I made a typo. I meant to say, “Has anyone experienced jitteriness after titrating dose of Mirtazapine to 30mg ?” If so, how long did the jitteriness last?

Are you taking it for sleep? If so, the lower amount of 15mg worked better for me for sleep. I did not have jitteriness at the 30mg but the higher amount keep me awake.

been on 45mg for so long I don't remember getting to that amount, had to wait for this to be approved to get a medication that worked for my depression, 2002 was when started I think, but I'm always jittery, D.mg

@ellemccope welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. As you can see from other members’ responses Mirtazapine can be prescribed in different doses for various reasons. If you don’t mind sharing, why has it been prescribed for you? What kind of provider prescribed it for you and will s/he be monitoring & following it up? Could you tell this provider about the jitteriness? All meds have side effects. Maybe this is one of those and will require some fine tuning with your provider.

Thank you for welcoming me! I was prescribed Mirtazapine by my psychiatrist who I have been seeing for several years. I suffer from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) , Panic Disorder (PD) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD).
I was first diagnosed with MDD and PD in 1996 and was prescribed Zoloft (generic Sertraline). The Zoloft worked well until approximately 1.5 to 2 years ago when I, apparently, developed a tolerance to it and it “pooped out” on me. Since then, my psychiatrist and I have tried Prozac, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, Pristiq, Trintellix, and Citalopram (brand name Celexa). They either didn’t work or I couldn’t tolerate the side effects. I am now on Mirtazapine which I started, at 15 mg, on June 13, 2023, and titrated to 22.5 mg on July 5th, and, then, 30 mg, on July 23rd. Since increasing to 30 mg, I have been experiencing jitteriness and wondered if anyone else has experienced it at this dose (30 mg) and, if so, approximately how long did the jitteriness last? I have a follow-up appointment with my psychiatrist in 3 weeks, but, in the meantime, to help me cope and have a better understanding, I was hoping to find someone who would be willing to share their experience.
