IV meds

Posted by Sophie @sophie1019, Dec 8, 2017

Is anyone taking meds thru iv? Doc wanted me to start tigecycline but it has,a warning that it can cause death. So I backed out of taking that one. Was taking amikican but it affected my kidneys...please feel free to share stories...

Hi Sophie,
@windwalker and @luvocean were recently talking about IV antibiotics. I know both @jentaylor and @laneyk were given antibiotics intrveneously for MAC.
Sophie, if tigecycline and amikican aren't options for you, which antibiotic does your doctor suggest?

Good morning I am currently Primaxin, IV, three times daily. This can be a pain since I am still working. So I will do one treatment at work at 6:00 am, the other two treatments at home. I went in to the IV clinic the other day to get my first dose. The nurse said this stuff is not so hard on the body. We will see. After the 1st dose, my stomach hurt just a little and I felt like I was getting the flu....but it subsided. Then a nurse came to the house for the 2nd dose at 7 pm. I felt okay, no stomach ache. Now I will try to give to myself this morning at 6 am...wish me luck, I need it......

@sophie1019 Sophie, do you feel comfortable sharing with us what your exact situation is? Do you have bronchiectasis? Do you know exactly what bug is in your lungs? When was your last sputem test and what was the results? What was the size of the colony?

@sophie1019 , Bronchial wash seems to have helped another member on this forum with Abscessus form of MAC. You want to ask your doctor about it. It is a wash performed by way of a bronchiescope. I met a woman locally where I live who said she got cured by that method also. I am just concerned about all of the heavy duty meds you are on.
