IV Iron treatment to help blood cells

I have Mantle Cell Leukemia. While my numbers are going down but not real bad yet and I am on a 2 month watch my Doctor suggested that I start receiving a weekly 30 minute IV session for 4 weeks to infuse my body with iron to help my blood cells function better. My iron numbers are borderline low. Still needs to be approved by the VA as I am on the VA community care program. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Due to very high inflammation markers and anemia (outside range), I received 3 iron infusions over about 2 months. My rheumatologist told me that my blood factors took up to 3 months to assimilate the iron in my blood and make new blood cells. I felt a little better after the 2nd infusion but it took at least a couple of months to feel somewhat like myself. As far as I am concerned the infusions and prednisone saved my life.

Thank you for the reply. It sort of answers questions about length of time to assimilate into the body that I need to ask the doctor next time. Still waiting for approval from the VA.
