Itching all over

Posted by gromocham @gromocham, May 9 10:05am

I have this terrible itching all over 24/7. No visible rash. Started prior to August 2025. Also have a sweaty clammyness in certain areas of my body. Showers don’t help. I am taking allergy shots every week for the itching, started in August 2025 but still no relief. Recently started Dupixant injections but I don’t know if I can afford them. Anyone out there with similar issues? My name is Gilbert and I’m 73 years old. Thank you.

Hi, Gilbert. Is Dupixant working for you. Has your doctor run lab panels for kidney and liver function, thyroid, anemia. Some lymphomas cause all over itching.

There are a number of conditions that cause itching..one is chronic kidney disease, CKD….some people get it from chemo or other meds..dermatologists can help if it’s getting crazy. Wishing all who itch better days ! Meanwhile, try not to scratch !

@gromocham I recently had total knee replacement and the pain meds made me itch like
crazy. I stopped the pain meds and the itching stopped. I took some Zyrtec for the itching until I was able to discontinue meds.

Also, candida yeast can also cause itching. It can be anywhere on our body where we sweat. Daily bathing, dry thoroughly and an antifungal powder like Zeasorb (Amazon) has given great relief for this to someone I know that had Candida, itching and sweating.

Last but not least, extremely dry skin can cause itching. Stay hydrated and moisturized if
you think that's the case with something like Cetaphil cream.

Praying for you to get relief. Blessings....

I'm 80 and due to several "incurable" diseases I experience itching and skin problems too. I have CKD (among other chronic illnesses) and plus a huge problem with itching as many people with renal disease do. I also am a diabetic and have a problem with diabetic sweat, especially in skin folds after going from 289 pounds to 130 pounds triggered partly by gastroparesis and surgery for that leading to Candida but extremely dry skin in other areas. But I've learned the hard way that shingles pain even after the acute episode is resolved can leave you with a severe burning (like fire ant bites) itch where the shingle pustules were several times in every 24 hour period and the painful itching even wakes me up at night. Scratching offers little relief because the itching isn't exactly on the skin surface but below that where the shingles path runs along the nerves. Nothing really helps to stop it and due to CKD, CHF, COPD, diabetes, etc., I am unable to tolerate most medication because that actually worsens the symptoms of those conditions. My health has deteriorated to the point that I may need hospice in the near future. Meanwhile, since laughter is good medicine, the How About A Laugh thread actually helps. Thank you for letting me vent.

My mom has intermittent, daily itching. It doesn’t appear to be on the outside of her skin. She also has extreme sweating. Her doctor has ordered multiple blood tests, but nothing stands out.

Celia, could it be low estrogen? An estrogen patch might be worth trying.

@gently , that’s a good idea. I’ll ask her doctor about it.

@gently nothing yet with the Dupixant. Still have 1 1/2 months supply left.

@gromocham, have you spoken to your doctor about the itching all over? As others have mentioned, itching can be a symptom of a variety of different conditions, medications or environmental factors. I would ask your doctor about testing to rule out or confirm the cause.
