Is there a study that showed Rifampin isn't needed with Arikayce?

I saw this mentioned a while back but can't find any study pertaining to this. If anyone can send a link, I would greatly appreciate.

I hope you are able to access the link. It refers to treatment for abcsessus.
It is always worth asking about arikayce. Knowledge is power.

Thank you! I was able to access. My ID doctor has told me she will write a request to my insurance to cover. Just praying that it will be approved.

I found one specifically regarding M abscessus, didn't read the whole thing due to time constraints, but it looks promising for Arikayce

I agree, I definitely need the Arikace. Amakacin had an S8 in the resistance and susceptibility testing. Unfortunately, mine also has the erm41 gene that makes it resistant to all macrolides. Hopefully, my ID doctor will have some ideas when I see her later today.
Thank you!!

@kathyjjb I don't know what you are treating, but with MAC cavitary lung disease specifically, I have not found any source that recommends treatment with only Arikayce. It is usually the Big 3 plus Arikayce. Sometimes, in the right setting, rifampin may be swapped out for clofazimine. I see that you are also resistant to all macrolides which obviously complicates matters. Of course we see lately with NB disease only, treatment may consist of azithromycin and ethambutol only. Perhaps you are looking to swap out both the azithromycin and rifampin with the Arikayce (keeping the ethambutol?). In any event, generally speaking Arikayce is not considered a stand-alone treatment for MAC. If you find different information, please share.

I have Mycobacterium Abscesses. I should be starting Arikayce, Linezolid, and Nuzyra this week. Linezolid is a nasty drug but the MAB is not resistant to it, along with the Arikayce. Yes, I know it's not a stand-alone drug, but it is the biggest gun in my arsenal, with an S8. I just feel blessed that my insurance is covering (out of pocket is $15,700 for 28 day supply). The Nuzyra was denied and is $7700/month-working on that one. Linezolid is just $60/month. Thanks for your input, I sure wish I could take macrolides. Kathy

My doctor at NYU bronchiectasis/ MAC program, Dr Adrizzo -Harris,
says that emerging data is showing the combo of ethambutol & Azithromycin is effective. I am in a double-blind study where half get those two plus Arikayce, half get those two with placebo (don't know whether I'm getting Arikayce or placebo). It passed ethical review since it is now being shown that just the 2 without rifampin can be effective, no one in the study is going without effective treatment, which would be unethical. However, I have not researched or inquired about citations. I trust her integrity.
