Is my cough permanent?
Severe stage COPD and have been battling lung infections for quite some time now but, now there is no infection and I still am coughing phlegm. Is this permanent? I'll also be asking my Dr in a little over a week but would appreciate your input as well. Thank you.

Even after infections have cleared up, coughs can linger awhile. Sometimes they eventually clear up or lessen, depending on the cause. If it’s solely the tail end of ending an infection, it should clear up.
If it’s from reflux or allergies, you have to treat underlying issue to get it to go away. Famotidine helps many reduce reflux. If it’s poorly controlled asthma, maybe see if your provider may want to tweak/adjust your treatment plan.
The older antihistimines are said to be better at helping with cough than the newer, 2nd generation ones (claritin, allegra, & zyrtec), but the 1st generation antihistamines tend to have more drowsiness as a side effect.
Thank you so much! Are you talking about acid reflux?
It depends on your COPD diagnosis. If you have the Phenotype of chronic bronchitis, no the phlegm, coughing, expectoration will not resolve. Are you on medications to manage your COPD, ie Ventolin, Trelegy, Breztri. Any nebulized medications. Treatment depends on your clinical presentation. Are you on O2, what do your O2 saturations look like? Really need more information to answer any questions. But then again, if you are seeing your pulmonologist he/she should be able to answer all these questions
Yes, acid reflux. Many folks either respiratory condition have varying degrees of reflux, even silent reflux in folks who have no idea they’re refluxing unless they are tested. (I have silent reflux and take famotidine which is an acid blocker every night.)
Interesting.
