Is a second opinion needed?
My wife was recently diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas. She had expected a surgery date today, but the surgeon told her that her liver function made surgery out of the question. Should we get a second opinion? Her only recourse will be a brutal course of chemotherapy.

1 ReactionCancer keeps you busy. My wife just got out of the hospital after her first round of chemo. There are other doctors to see. We mentioned a second opinion to the nurse coordinator a few days ago, but we haven't had much time. She is doing pretty well and did not suffer much from her first round. We understand that it gets worse. But, for now, she is eating, in good spirits, pretty strong and her body is taking it fairly well. Thank you for asking.

2 ReactionsWhat chemo is your wife on? It is not bad for everyone; some people have few side effects. Think positive; your wife may be one of those with few side effects. My husband lost all his hair and we had fun with all kinds of caps (newsboy cap à la Peaky Blinders etc). After about 6 months his hair grew back so now I run around with his trendy caps. There are also drugs to help with nausea. Just get plenty of rest, some exercise, eat a balanced diet (cook fresh all the time if possible).
