Is $8800. a year worth it?

Out-of-pocket spending for covered prescription drugs is capped at $2,100. Is Tymlos one of the medications in your plan?

It is not covered by any government plan. I have medicare and medicare supplement.

The hip/femor are slower than the spine with regard to BMD increases. You'd probably need to do the full two years to ensure you achieve gains.

@kzeiss, The "$2,100 cap" refers to the maximum amount Medicare Part D enrollees are required to pay out-of-pocket for covered prescription drugs each year. Once you hit this limit, your plan covers 100% of your covered medication costs for the remainder of the calendar year. If Tymlos is on your particular plan, you won't pay more than $2100!

@kzeiss If your prescription drug plan does not cover Tymlos, then find one that does. Change plans at the next window of opportunity. Medicare has a cap now. I held off starting Tymlos until the cap went into effect. Do not take a bisphosphonate in the meantime because the effectiveness of Tymlos will be blunted

For @kzeiss, I agree with daisylou. I have been on Tymlos over a year and on original medicare and D. Total cost $2100. I waited to start tymlos until a new enrollment period so that I would select a D plan in my area that had Tymlos on the formulary. In my area there was only one plan with UHC AARP which also has a fairly high monthly premium. I plan to switch plans next Jan. when my tymlos is completed. Still working on what comes next. @tangydog I chose UHC AARP for the same reason. I'll probably have to make a decision about medication this year so I opted in. It IS expensive.

I suggested you talk to your doctor and advise them about your financial dilemma with this medication. Many of the drug companies have programs that allow them to provide you with a prescribed medication at a lower cost. Your doctor would be the one to reach out to them if this is the case.
