Interstitial Cystitis: Anyone have symptom relief tips?

Posted by januaryjane @januaryjane, May 6, 2020

Ive been diagnosed with IC for awhile and am on Elmiron. It has been helping pretty well. The past few days Ive had a bad flare. I try not to take advil/ibuprofen. Any others out there with IC that have symptom relief tips? Im staying away from the 4 Cs, and other irritants in food, drink. (The 4 Cs being caffeine, carbonated, citrus, vit. C.)

Has the flare passed now? How are you doing?

What works for me is to take 5mg of diazepam and 2 Benadryl and sit in a recliner with a pillow under my knees. It will not feel better at all at first. Within an hour you should see a difference. This is what I do for bladder spams. If you have a muscle relax, try taking that. My bladder spasms get so bad that they make my bowel spasm. I feel as if I need to use the bathroom really bad. Is that what you are feeling?

Hi, isn't elmiron really expensive?

I also find adding a heating pad helpful.

I am trying aloe Vera capsules and staying away from caffeine, chocolate, Spicey food, etc. I do not have pain so I must have a moderate version.

It was $483 with my insurance for 90 pills. I didn’t get it.

How many pills were you supposed to take per day?

Just curious if you do not have pain, how did you get diagnosed?

With a cystoscope used with water. It showed areas in the bladder wall that had openings with hemorrhage.
