Internal Stitches in your Pee Post Surgery-Docs Should Tell Us!

Posted by fritzo @fritzo, Jun 6 5:58pm

So, I was concerned today as I saw a small spot of dark blood in my pad. Just a tiny spot. I kinda ignored it because I've been doing a bunch of events with my son. Then I got another in another pad later.

I'm six weeks post surgery, so I didn't think it came from the immediate post surgery risk of too much activity disrupting the surgical field. Then, I remembered, somewhere I read that at some point....your internal stitches will come out with your pee.

So, I examined the spot closer. Yep, looks to me like a teeny, tiny little bit of nylon thread.

Not sure how long this will go on, but thinking it's nothing I need to worry about. Is this a similar timeline at six weeks that other people experienced?

I never noticed any, TBH. Never really thought about it.

@turtbean Very common. I had small specks in my pads and urine. Doc said not to worry because it was break of blood and stitches where they reattached your urethra.

@dingus1 Ahhhhh, that was my hope. Around this same time, I'm having some pain during the final part of voiding (peeing) centered along the penis and not so much in the abdomen. But, it seems to be subsiding. I wouldn't call it burning, but not pleasant. It's getting better....so I'm just going to roll with it.

So, yeah, stitches for sure. Today...after peeing I look down and there is a little short nylon string hanging out at the tip. Never seen that before! Nylon wasn't very long, but no doubt about it. I suspect some of my irritation in that stretch the past few days has been the passing of a few suture stitches. Should be over soon.
