Intermittent fasting

Posted by oregongirl77 @oregongirl77, Sep 27, 2023

I have been intermittent fasting 16/8 daily for over 2 months. I have lost 25 lbs. What I would like to know is it ok that I fast every day. Should I take a break , and skip a day occasionally? This program is working for me, better than anything I have tried before. I am 77 years old.

This means 16 hours fasting and 8 hours nourishment. My routine is to have food from 11 am to 7 pm. From 7pm to 11 am I fast, drinking lots of water, or organic teas until bedtime. During my eating period, I realized that portion control, and quality are paramount. My vice was snacking. Now I have a hand full of nuts or fruit if the need arrives for something sweet or salty.

@oregongirl77 My husband and I have utilize the same intermittent schedule, and it does work! I don't think it's harmful to give your body a break as long as you're still eating nutriously. In addition to listing weight, staying in ketosis and curbing one's appetite are two of the easy-to-attain benefits of intermittent fasting, which is recommended for some cancer patients as well: https://www.cancercenter.com/community/blog/2021/06/fasting-cancer#:~:text=%E2%80%9CIntermittent%20fasting%2C%20rather%20than%20complete,healthy%20snacks%2C%20sides%20and%20entrees.
Thank you! Stay well.

Hi, I am new to this blog/group. Is there an 'everyday" support group I can join? I am terrified to try this fasting because in the winter my schedule is very different than the summer. I stay up late and get up around 8am. My favorite time to snack is 9pm-10:30pm. Bad Snacking! I can go until noon before I want to eat. Any suggestions as to how and where to start? Thanks

Mary

I am 70 and I have done intermittent fasting for two years, mostly with the 18/6 protocol with 2 meals a day. I have lost 20 pounds and now I seem to have leveled off with losses. I am trying to do one meal on Mondays now to see if it’ll start me losing again, and when I can, I’ll do one meal on a second day each week. I really like the IF lifestyle. No counting calories or carbs. I don’t eat after 2 p.m. so I have no more heartburn at night. I used to be prediabetic but my A1c has dropped to normal levels now due to IF and weight loss. My blood pressure is now good as well. I will do IF the rest of my life, happily.

Congratulations on losing 25 lbs it is really a good result. I am starting intermittent fasting but unfortunately I am inconsistent in fasting so no result so far (after almost 3 weeks) despite (slightly) reducing calories and carbs. I see lots of people on social media who lost massive weight on IF only and I hope I can do it. I just turned 40 and had a high HbA1c test in the prediabetes range and a high blood pressure so I am trying to get them down with lifestyle changes. I loved IF but if it doesn't work for me I will have to stop and find another "diet". I need to lose 9-10 kg initially then may be 5-6 more. I replied to the post to be able to follow the topic and see some encouraging experiences.
