Incontinence question

Posted by someoneelse @someoneelse, 5 days ago

Is it normal for incontinence to get better then get worse for a while after RARP?

I had a RARP done on October 14th. Ive only had dribbling incidents since so I guess I am somewhat lucky.

For a while it seemed to be getting better but sometimes like this past week it seems a little worse. Especially if I make a sudden move.

Ive been doing kegel exercises, though not as many as I could be doing admittedly.

Is it normal for incontinence severity to come and go?

Thanks

Same boat. RARP Oct 9. Mostly good control, peeing like a 12 yr old. But seem to leak later in the day, with a sneeze, or exerting myself. Also, alcohol is like a flood gate. I did order some Orykas briefs for the Holiday party circuit.

I had surgery 16 years ago and radiation 12 years ago. Five years after radiation, my incontinence problems started. Since then, it’s gotten progressively worse, A lot worse.

For some people it comes on sooner. Doing Kagles doesn’t always seem to resolve the problem, They take a long time to become really effective. There are some videos on YouTube about resolving incontinence. You might check them out. They have some different ways of doing it..

That’s exactly what happened to me. I didn’t even wear a pad after prostotectomy. After radiation a few years later I began to have minor leakage and began wearing pads. Now 4 to 5 a day. Someone mentioned when they started using a few pads a day it was too late for keagles. My personal experience would have to agree. However I did note losing the belly and exercise did seemed like it helped. And without saying what you eat and drink has a big impact. I don’t help my wife wash dishes unless I feel like changing clothes.

I tried doing Keagle’s and also went to a PT who specializes in incontinence and the exercises just didn’t seem to get anywhere. I did them seriously for a few months and it made no improvement at all.

I’m only up to two or three pads a day, but they are really thick and get soaked. I can soak a pad in two or three hours if I’m really active, So I’m concerned about how much I would really be doing if I was running around all the time. I do wear a clamp when I go to the gym go dancing or go to a dinner party every month

My wife does all the cooking so I wash the dishes. It’s only fair. When I was growing up, there were six of us and we had to alternate washing the dishes. I swore I’d never do that again, But doing it for two people is pretty quick and easy. I also have a dishwasher today and we never had one in the 50s because they didn’t exist.

There are multiple variables associated with incontinence. My urologist recommended a book by Vanita Gaglani "Life after Prostatectomy" Available on Amazon. She is a pelvic floor PT specialist who has treated thousands of men with this issue. Very detailed and comprehensive book on regaining continence. It helped me.
