Importance of focusing on Positive with Depression & Anxiety.

Posted by BoneHead @stsopoci, May 27, 2019

In my journey with the millions of humans who are brave enough to go down the path of recovery without alcohol, bad drug and more drugs, I have gradually more and more discovered how important it is to crawl out of my deep hole, bad attitude, self-importance, feeling sorry for myself, angry, sad, etc, etc, condition and more toward the LIGHT!!! That means changing and moving for me away from some friends that are very negative about everything. That means walking around the block when I get upset so I can calm down and see the light. That means taking care of myself, exercising, eating right and meeting new friends and keeping old friends that are well-balanced. Positivity in life is available to everyone and it's FREE. I have gone on a path throughout my early days of self-medicating with lots of alcohol, drug, etc. I cleaned myself up in 1996, OCT 13th but I still did not feel right until I could ask for help from a professional. Found out I was GAD (inherited from my MOM) and a few other close seconds. I went on medication for years on various meds until I found the chemical that keeps me pretty normal. BUT, BUT...something else was missing because I still suffered through the negativity of every situation that I could create in a moments time.

I love these groups because you are honest with yourself which is very important.
Finding good friends that understand you and the importance of staying positive with your journey through life.
Taking good care of yourself.
We all are unique so what works for me does not always work for you. I'm on 20mg of Lexipro.
What do other people do to stay positive?

@smilie

That sounds like a great idea but don’t the birds make a mess?

@smillie The beuty and singing of the birds outweigh the mess but if you put your feeders in a tree you wont see any mess. I had several feeders in the tree adjacent to my porch they where nice to hear sitting on back porch listening and watching the birds and hummers they just require sugar water a 2:1 ratio

I see the ratio water to sugar is 4:1 ratio. I use 1/2 of sugar to 2 cups water.

Teresa,
I love to swim. It's my favorite exercise all year around. I've made it a priority in my life. I drive 40 min round trip in the summer and 1 hour during the rest of the year in order to get to a pool. I try to swim 3 or 4 times per week and swim at least a half hour per time. I'm trying to build up to swimming an hour. It's very soothing and steady. I pray for people as I swim. One person per lap. It helps me count my laps as I plan who I want to pray for each time I go swimming.
Thanks for asking.
Christine.

Hi Christine: When I was at the pool today, I thought about you and prayed that all was going well. Drop me a note and let me know if you are still swimming and how you are feeling. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Anxiety can be caused by normal reaction to a stressful situation or it can be caused by our mind thinking that it’s a stressful situation. There’s many times in our life when we will normally have anxiety over a situation that will normally create anxiety for anyone. Then there’s many people that suffer from anxiety that really is not there but we are going through the symptoms nevertheless.

@trellg132 May I suggest you keep a journal of how the feelings and effects of the medications work for you? I remember that helping my Dr to understand what was working for me. Did your Dr suggest any other tools to work with your anxiety? Talk therapy, or exercise, or a group, perhaps?

Hello Teresa, I immersed myself into the field of Energy Medicine such as Reiki, Healing Touch and Energy Medicine, itself. I have had the opportunity to work with some great teachers in the Twin Cities Area. The practice was another way for me to find the way out of negative thinking. Because of my current medical diagnosis, I have had to change my work schedule to 4 ten hour days to allow a day for treatments. This has greatly reduced the amount of free time I have to practice all of the above but even spending five minutes a day in centering and grounding helps so much. I am a psychotherapist and all the cognitive behavioral techniques were temporary until I incorporated the energy work. Thank you for sharing your journey!

It’s a balance of mental, physical and spiritual that works for many of us. I love the natural ways of helping your mind to focus on positivity.
