If hot flashes stop does it mean the ADT is no longer effective?

Posted by diane613 @diane613, 1 day ago

My husband has been on ADT for one year and experienced about 8 hot flashes a day. His last PSA test was very low. The hot flashes suddenly stopped. Does this mean the ADT is no longer effective?

ADT causes suppression of testosterone (T) which results in low PSA. If his T level is still low and his PSA is still low, the ADT is still effective. What are both of those numbers?

Hi he is being tested in early August. Im just concerned that having hot flashes means the Orgavix is working and if they stop it means no longer effective

@diane613 - I've been on Orgovyx since June 2025. Hot flashes were extremely annoying for a while but have calmed down the last few months. Sometimes I'll go for a week or 2 without noticing one. You can't count on side effects to determine medication effectiveness. Need to wait for the bloodwork to tell. PCa is a hurry up and wait disease. Just have to get used to it. August is only a couple weeks away. Best wishes!

I've been on Orgovyx and Zytiga / Prednisone for 18 months so far and PSA has been undetectable for over a year. The hot flashes I experienced early on have subsided for the most part. Now only occurring occasionally. I am sensitive to ambient temperatures (feeling hot or cold) than I ever was before my Pca journey. I suspect your husband has nothing to worry about with the cessation of hot flashes and I doubt very much it has any bearing on treatment effectiveness. I'm uncertain if it's normal, but I'm now experiencing increased difficulty sleeping and fatigue as this regimen continues. Hopefully all this will subside once ADT and ARPI is concluded?

It could very well be that his body "acclimated" to low testosterone.

The same thing happens to menopausal women, after a while hot flashes stop as well as tiredness and moodiness etc.

My husband is on Orgovyx and Nubeqa and has no side effects at all and his testosterone is down to 6 from 746 and uPSA is less than 0.006.

Everybody is so different with effects of ADT and only PSA level can tell if ADT is working or not.

What @surftohealth88 that is exactly what I would say.

Get the testosterone checked. As long as it’s low, he’s just gotten used to low testosterone and the hot flashes have subsided.

I would just like to use this opportunity to advise all that have hard time with ADT to try to really make sure that they exercise every day and have good PC friendly diet. My husband is attributing his ADT tolerance to those 2 factors.
