idiopathic peripheral neuropathy - numbness in feet but no pain

Hi…I also have neuropathy…and pre diabetic…did your Drs ever put you on metformin or other drug for the pre diabetes? Mine didn’t.

I believe that whether you are pre-diabetic or non-diabetic or diabetic is determined by what your Hb A1c number is. Not all places use the same values to determine status. Normal at Mayo is 4-5.6%. Also blood glucose. Mayo is 70-140; here it's 70-100.

I started developing symptoms that felt like numbness but later realized that it feels more like having a tight band across my left foot. It started with the tightness around the bottom of the foot. It eventually moved to more on top of the foot to the ankle and now going up the lower calf. Eventually i developed drop foot when i walk. My gait is not normal, looks like i’m dragging my foot although i can still lift it. I’m trying to make an appointment with a neuro surgeon to evaluate my spinal MRI. It seems that i have a cyst that could possibly be pressing on the nerve. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

@panda2ac: Boy I’m surprised that your symptoms are similar to what I have had on my right foot. It is like a tight band around my upper foot towards my ankle, that restricts my foot from flexing normally. My feet are usually cold, but when this happens it feels cold & numb. Even if I rub the foot, it does not affect the feeling of a restrictive band (with nothing visable). I guess I just thought it was another weird feeling from Neuropathy. My gait is normal.
I am very interested in what information you get from your doc.

What they are thinking is that I have a Tavlov cyst compressing on the nerve that runs down from behind the thigh to the outside of the ankle and to the top of the foot. They day that usually the cysts are benign and they leave them alone unless it causes problems. I’m scheduled to see a neurosurgeon to see if this is the case and whether they can drain it and fill it with fibrin to prevent reoccurrence.

@panda2ac: Prior post referenced foot/ankle restrictive feeling that restricted full movement. This is weird, but my MRIs also show Tarlov cyst on lower spine - similar to your issue.
I want to follow and learn from your experiences. So please share your docs evaluation and if surgery is advised. Also wonder what will happen if you do not choose surgery?

Have you discussed with a neurologist about your tavlov cyst? Did they give you any suggestions or recommendations?

How many people have had a bunionectomy proceedure done and then developed idopathic neuropathy soon after?
