I’d like to know if anyone can tell me how to be seen by staff at Mayo

20 year survivor of bladder cancer- 10 year survivor of stage 4 lung cancer and presently being treated for stage 4 prostate cancer. Now I believe it’s gotten into my throat but my real question is how can I get seen by Mayo Clinic? I have Medicare + Medicaid dual care which spouts that they will pay for everything, but unsure about out of state coverage. I’m desperate as I do not believe that there is any place in Ohio save perhaps the Cleveland clinic but my answer (I believe) lies in the Mayo Clinic. Desperately seeking help- Anyone?

@chebo1954 have you tried the Cleveland Clinic? I have heard good things about it too. If you cannot get to a Mayo Clinic, Cleveland may be worth trying. Better than nothing …

In addition to the Cleveland Clinic, also check with The James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio. (The specific cancer types they treat: https://cancer.osu.edu/for-patients-and-caregivers/learn-about-cancers-and-treatments/cancers-conditions-and-treatment/cancer-types)

Thanks I have exported my health records to Cleveland Clinic but I’m in a holding pattern until Monday so I can talk with my insurance company about that, but really appreciate your input concerning this matter

Probably the fastest way into Mayo is to seek a Physician referral rather than doing a self referral. Medicare should cover it regardless of State. Not sure about Medicaid. Do you have a secondary carrier?

Here in Jacksonville Fl area our daughter recently moved here, has had three separate cancer issues. Just recently completed chemo for stage 4 lung. She tried to enroll-i Mayo and was turned down. When she met with her new primary care dr, they sent a referral to Mayo and she was accepted immediately.
Good luck

I called Mayo , Jacksonville and asked how to apply for ENT help and was told to have my Dr fax my records and then they will contact me. I have Patulous Eustachian tubes and feel desperate to find help. Hope the fax will go next week.

I would like to thank all of you (and you know who you are) for your input as well as your advice, but it turns out my insurance company doesn’t operate in any of the states that Mayo has clinics but was received within 24 hours for a consult with an oncologist on the 11th of August- a special thank you to the person who told me to try the Cleveland clinic saying “better than nothing” and I couldn’t be happier. Bless all of you that responded to my question as I will always do my best to help you in any way I can. Sincerely, Robert

I am so glad you can go to Cleveland Clinic. We were there for Joe’s heart issues and they were top notch. We had just as good care there as we did at Mayo. You are in good hands. I wish you both all the best on your journey. Please keep us informed. Take care.MAC
