ICS Medication Dilema ( Asmanex HFA - mometasone furoate)
I have a several problems with my Pulmonologist, one being that she has been treating me for the past year based on a 3 year old CT scan that she says showed BX. I "failed treatment" with Azithromycin after 2 months and she finally re-did a scan , which I had been asking for, for MONTHS. Guess what - the radiologist say NO BX.
So next week I get a bronchoscopy and after that she'll probably wash her hands of me, and send me back to GI and ENT.
BUt here is the problem - she also wants me to a two week high dose inhaled steroid called Amanex. After 2 week OFF the antibiotic I had started to notice improvement....less mucus but still coughing. Ok, so I start the inhaler and within 2 days I am worse again - violent hard coughing and back to constant mucus slithering up my throat. It got so bad I called a consulting nurse who said, to stop taking the inhaler. At barely 2 days further along I am still pretty bad and now second guessing myself and the nurse about stopping.
Does anyone out there know about Amanex actually helping with a cough and mucus ? Should I make myself take it for the two weeks the pulmo says is a "good trial" or given her history with me, is this a stupid idea?? I do not have asthma, my throat hurt on it, but but but, could it be a way to calm down my reactive airway??
Or maybe the bronchoscopy with clear things up, and I should just wait and see...
Any wisdom or experience with this medication is greatly appreciated!!
