IBS: How to get rid of or ease the symptoms?

Posted by vkzwkansas @vkzwkansas, Oct 23, 2011

I have tried about everything to get rid or ease the symptoms of IBS. I have had a colonoscopy, celiac test, ultra sound on uterus, endoscopy, food allergy test, etc. I had my gallbladder removed and that helped some. I have tried probiotics, dicyclomine, imodium, colestipol, staying away from wheat and corn products. Right now I am taking Aloecure and that isn't helping. Nothing seems to help ease the symptoms. Imodium will take care of the diarrhea when that is the problem but I still have to deal with multiple bowels movements and feeling of still having to go all day long, every day. Does anyone have any other ideas of what a person could try?

Welcome @rsacker and @missyalora52
Rsacker, I moved your question to this discussion to this new IBS conversation in the Digestive Health group. You posted to an old discussion that looked to be spam. We recommend not sharing your personal email on a public forum, but rather to do so using the secure private messaging.

I'll point out however that by sharing here in the forum both you and missyalora can learn from many members like @rodeo2step @livefully @grandmajan @cahnny @linn1 @thull @jackiem95 and more about managing IBS and what works for them.

While we wait for others to chime in, you may also be interested in reading this expert blog:

@rsacker indicated that someone cured IBS? Is this possible? I have IBS-D and it has changed my entire life - and not for the better.

I realize now that I was moved from an “old” site to here. The message I read was on the old site. I am new so forgive me for the lack of jargon

I don't think there is a cure for any digestive issues. They all make life diffucult. Meds help in some instances but sometimes cause more issues.

I agree, I have collagenous colitis and it has changed my life. I have lost 60 lbs and turned into almost a recluse. I’m on infusion therapy now and feeling a lot better, hope it continues to work.

@sonnie27 and @rsacker, I can imagine the excitement that the promise of cure generates. Unfortunately the post that proclaimed to be a patient with IBS who found a cure was spam. It’s so important to be hypervigilant about the things posted on the internet including on discussion forums. If it looks too good to be true, it often is. I’m thankful that @rsacker found the old post from 2012 so that it could be removed and this community to be kept safe from misinformation and spam.

@sonnie27 @rsacker @kaylasills @carolyne what are your triggers and how do you avoid them?

I just thus week started Alosetron that my gastroenterologist prescribed. It is very expensive so I only got 14 days worth. I’m not sure yet if it will work or not. It is for IBS with diarrhea. Check it out.
