I would like to hear from those who have side effects from prolia

Hi
Okay I'll try to synopsize this 2023-24 dcis breast cancer her 2 negative stage 0 .I had 20 hits of radiation . I already had osteoporosis with one fracture in my T8 which happened in 2022 January rolling over in bed. 5 months later I fractured my t7 and 8 doing nothing rolling over in bed so I have been on a infusion of zoldronic acid for 4 years. This past July 21st I bent down to turn on the shower and all three refractured. The doctor switched me to prolia which I was very apprehensive about doing. Had my first shot September 9th 2026. First week was okay second and third week I have felt horrible fatigue, nausea ,headache. I've read a few posts on here about people that had to stop the drug so I don't know what's going to happen but I'm not feeling well. Also I just had blood work and I got anemia after the radiation. And now it's worse after the prolia shot, my hemoglobin is dropped to 110 so just wondering if anyone else can share their story of this medication because if I don't start feeling better shortly I'm not getting another shot I'll have to go back on my infusion.
Thanks

I have had four Prolia shots and I am considering not taking it anymore. I have post menopausal osteoporosis that did not respond well to Reclast. I cannot tolerate oral medication for osteoporosis. About two weeks after starting it, in October of 2024, I started to feel like I had asthma-which I’ve never had but that was the only way I could describe the feeling. I also had an upper respiratory infection in the beginning of October so it seemed related to that. I also used an albuterol inhaler and that stopped the symptoms. I was referred to a pulmonologist and had a battery of pulmonary function tests that really didn’t show much of anything. I also saw an allergist who at first thought it was also related to the respiratory infection but then suggested I likely had GERD. Because I had no heartburn and the inhalers helped I did not think it was GERD. But in May of 2026 I was treated for a sinus infection and was given Prednisone that totally upset my stomach. I started taking Pepcid and got relief from the stomach pain and also realized the asthma like symptoms resolved and I was able to stop the inhalers. My physician ordered an upper endoscopy that showed I have erosive gastritis. GERD and erosive gastritis are not common side effects of Prolia. I have always had a sensitive stomach, hence the need for an injectable drug for my osteoporosis. But I usually can pinpoint what drug is bothering my stomach. I suspected it was the Prolia but the only way I can find out is to stop it. Has anyone else had stomach problems with Prolia?

I have been on Prolia for three years and dealt with many side effects that I didn’t realize may have been from Prolia. I had a shot on August 28th and am still not feeling well. Fatigue, peripheral edema of my arms, occasional shortness of breath, heart palpitations, jaw and horrible low back pain. Symptoms started within 24 hours of shot. A lipoma also popped up on the shoulder of my injected arm. My doctor does not believe it’s from Prolia, but I am going to ask for a plan to get off of this drug. I also saw that it can cause breast lumps-I had a lump removed in 2024 (thankfully benign) but now wondering if Prolia caused the lump. I am pushing and self advocating to establish a path away from this drug. The side effects were mininalized when I started Prolia. Reclast previously caused hives and I have GERD, so don’t know if I can do Boniva.

I might add that the 8/28 shitcalso triggered shingles and a UTI.

Wow, that's a lot of stuff my gut instinct is to get off it I was on reclast I didn't have side effects. A fractured though in July my spine so I don't think it's going to matter what I'm on because of radiation has changed my bones and my thoracic. The pharmacist told me I was crazy that the side effects of having of nothing to do with the shot but I think that's BS

Hi
This is interesting. Because my anxiety seems to have gotten worse I didn't have any prior to the shot. Also I've been having constant sinus issues. Also fatigue. I talked to my pharmacist he told me that those aren't side effects so I'm frustrated 🥴

The issues with sinus stopped and now only take one for seasonal allergies occ., also anxiety not as bad, I think it got worse due to feeling bad from the side effects. Everyone is different and can have different reactions. one of these may not be typical as written, but again everyone reacts in different ways and sensitivity or allergic to what my dr said in different ways. It is written in everything I read, fatigue is a side effect.

@jdh5 one shot last April …similar effects to you….sinus problems mostly which is horrible and the odd heartburn…feeling lousy but it took me some time to figure it out …I am not feeling great at all since I got the injection of Prolia. Decided not to take another which is due next week. Hope all this stuff wears off soon and I get back to being myself. Also had the lightheaded feeling as well as the aches but some pains are to be expected but not all the other stuff. Disappointed it has not being an easy fix.

I also had sever fatigue also. after no more shots it did take months but did gradually ware off as it seems to stay in system for a while, little by little it did wear off but it took quite a while. My pcp with all my side effects said I was allergic to it.

May I ask have you had any fractures?
I was quite happy on reclast I had 4 years of infusions once a year but I fractured twice in 2025, 6 months after breast cancer treatment radiation and then again this July 21st.they are in my thoracic spine,That's why he wanted to change me to prolia which jubonti is what they gave me. I guess I will see as the time goes on how I feel hopefully things subside and it's not going to be the whole 6 months with this sinus stuff.
