I was diagnosed with diverticulitis

Posted by Jenny D @jenniferedodd, Mar 22, 2014

I was diagnosed in Jan w diverticulitis. Cipro & Flagyl round. It returned with vengeance 6 weeks later as peritonitis. IV antibiotics in hospital 5 days ...flagyl & cipro again. Dr said I must undergo colon surgery to remove. After research I am willing b'cause I don't want antibiotic resistance. Question is how do I stay clear of inflammation/infection to get ready for surgery in 4 weeks?

#1 Eat anti inflammatory foods . And stay away from ones that give inflammation . Like beef , butter , deep fried foods any deli meat . So not good for you and bacon all can inflame your bowels I’ve had diverticulitis 3 times now . And been on the two antibiotics doc prescribed . For 10 days . Wasn’t sure I’d get through the course of them . Legs started messing up . Still can’t bend over to touch toes since taking them lots of pain when I try too . . I’m quite active and know I do not want diverticulitis again . Or the horrible antibiotics . Hope this helps ,, good luck with operation

With diverticulitis I find a change in diet with canceling out red meat bacon deli meat and instead for example . For breakfast instead of bacon and eggs I have a pint hat I fill with rolled oats 1/3 of pint jar. I add cinnamon then two tablespoons of maple syrup and lastly pour Vanilla oat milk just to cover the oat concoction. I do this the night before and it’s all ready to eat when I rise in morning . You can also slice peaches and or any fruit you like and mix it in am . It’s delicious and totally calmed my bowels . Been doing this for last 8 weeks and I feel great and not that I needed to lose weight but it did that too ,,
