I read what I write but CANNOT read a written book!

Thanks for tuning in.
This is very serious.
I can read pages and pages of what I have written, yet have to put down absolutely any book I read after maybe two pages.

Please, I used to read like a sponge, but now cannot tolerate reading anymore.
Help, advice, suggestions ❤️ please !!!

Hello!
I used to read like a sponge, haven't in a while.
Now cannot get more than two pages into a book then can't stand it anymore, and h a v e to put the book down.

Yet I can read pages and pages of what I myself have written.
I can read emails, some pages, but a BOOK I cannot tolerate so must put it down.

It's serious, I need to be able to read what I haven't written yet cannot!
This has been going on since I stopped reading books a couple of years ago.

When I listen to a live speech or youtube video of any length, I'm listening and heard what was said yet soon don't know what has been said. Also I have record the audio to listen to again to remember, know the things that were said.

Help, advice, suggestions, ideas p l e a s e !!!

Thank you, xpax

@xpax Do you think being able to read what you write yourself is a result of your brain already having processed the idea and words? That way, it is nothing new. Reading a book you are exposing yourself to different ideas/words/ sentence structure. It might be a big undertaking, an attention issue, a stumbling block as it were. How does this resonate with you?

Could you slow down your reading speed? Try and pick up to read what interests you at that moment? Be sure you are able to take frequent breaks. Do not add in distractions like eating, or watching television, or even laying in bed. Do any of these sound like they might be worth a try? You could be doing it all without being aware. I am guilty of that, myself!

@xpax you’re not alone. I’m just like you!

@xpax you are not alone. I am also like you! I can’t remember when I picked up a book to read, although some years ago I was a voracious reader and always had a book in my hands, even as a child! I suspect technology has made us distracted … it has become easier to watch and read off a screen than off pages of a book.

@xpax Hello!

May I suggest trying an audiocassette. I have just recently really enjoyed book reads. Hope something clicks for you.

After having a stroke, my reading comprehension went down the drain. I could recognize words, but they didn't make sense in a sentence, let alone a paragraph or a book.

To make a long story short, I ended up reading kids' books for a while. They got too easy pretty quickly, so I moved on to progressively more adult material.

Along the way, I re-discovered Archie comic books, which I had read as a kid (a looooong time ago). They were funny, quick stories.

For those familiar with the Archie universe, I know what you're going to ask: Betty or Veronica?
I ain't sayin'.
