Because I live alone I asked my surgeon about going to rehab center for a short time. He blew that off and said if I can use a walker I will be sent home

I had a similar response from my surgeon over the same need for care because I had no help. She refused more than 1 night in hospital and refused to approve a skilled nursing facility after the surgery, even though the hospital promised me they could arrange it. The surgeon provided no presurgery patient education and refused to discuss risks of the surgery. My outcome has been horrible, even after a relative moved in to help me. GET A DIFFERENT SURGEON!! There is no way you can do a total knee replacement on your own. The recovery goes on for as much as a year. You won't be able to drive. Who will feed you? The meds are so strong you can't even keep track of all of them, because who knows what day/time it is? I found I had no idea what I had taken when or what they were all for. If course, my surgeon never explained anything. Don't have this surgery until you get 24 hour help. It's just too hard. Get in there and fight those lousy doctors for your right to good care. There are good doctors out there. Keep searching. Best wishes to you.
