I just had surgery 4 days ago.It is now my second brain surgery. The first one I don't remember it being so easy.I guess not that any of it's easy. I just don't remember getting out of the hospital 2 days after my surgery. That's forty one staples , the second time forty two , the first. I had a lot more support, I resources, people telling me what you need to be doing.I got nothing right now. I'm trying to not completely have to shave my head or something. But my hair is tangled not knotted full of blood painful, I don't know how to fix it, and I'm looking for some help on that one, if possible. As well as like I have some questions about what is happening to my body since i'm out in the community

Hi: I feel for you, having gone through the same thing after my meningioma surgery. Sure wish a nurse would have handed me a comb. I had no idea my hair had gone crazy! Nurse did say to try combing it out using Argan Oil, sold as a hair product. Took quite a bit of time teasing out the mats, but still had all/most of my hair at the end. Miracle! Try it - take it from one who knows what you’re going through.

Did you try detangling shampoo and using a pick? Ill try to add a photo of shampoo the hospital sent home with me. Just checking on you.

Good luck on your recovery, I also had about 36 staples and was given the okay to wash my hair next day in hospital a nurse helped me. I used baby shampoo as was given at hospital and later recommended to use at home which I did. If you wash my guess is the blood would wash away. You may have tangles. I wasn’t allowed to use conditioner for 6 weeks. Dr wanted me to only use baby shampoo. As for any tangles I would work around your incision and maybe get a family member to gently help. Tangles were never an issue as I tried to comb daily. Dr wanted me to wash hair daily to keep clean. Best of luck to you. 🙏

Catv7: Glad you responded. My craniotomy was 2 years ago and I just couldn't remember the whole head washing procedure.

@doyel: I see it's been 6 days since you posted so I'll weigh in since no one else has. My neurologist told me they don't like to use gamma or cyber knife once the meningioma grows to about 3 centimeters. The radiation specialist I was referred to verified this. But I've read on this Mayo Connect platform that others say 4 to 5 cm. I don't know where they got their information.
