i have struggled with an undiagnosed swaying dizziness for months

Posted by kalebt @kalebt, Apr 28, 2023

hello all. I'll start by saying I've seen 2 primary doctors, 2 therapists, 2 chiropractors, and an ENT. none of these relieve my swaying dizziness whatsoever. I was told it was anxiety but the 2 different medications I took worsened my symptoms, even after days of stopping. I have a few new appointments, but I wonder if anyone has struggled with this or knows someone. I'm looking to recover as soon as possible. I am a 21-year-old male that had to file for unemployment due to this illness. I've had this since October of 2022. for a full description I attached two files. one short explanation and backstory another longer version as well. thank you.

Last May, I started having episodes of a drunk stagger with pressure rising and lowering in my head. I too, have seen all the doctors & $40,000+ in medical billing with zero diagnosis. They have ruled out my ears, so no vertigo, bppv, etc. also ruled out vestibular migraines. I don't always stagger, but feel almost motion sick like. No nausea or vomiting. I was diagnosed with a high jugular bulb and also bone missing from my sigmoid sinus. These do not have anything to do with my episodes either. Nobody seems to know.

thank you for your response. but my "vertigo" isn't a room-spinning sensation. its more so a side-to-side front-to-back swaying feeling. I feel this whenever standing still or sitting up primarily. As far as medicine I cannot tell if meclizine helps. if it does, it's hardly much help. I also do not feel Nausea, mostly just hard to focus with my eyes, along with sometimes a numbness of hands or feet.

I have had both- spinning and the swaying. Recently I lost my balance getting out of bed, and had a sensation of not only being off balance but being pulled to the left.

My mother also had the side to side, front to back swaying. Again, a good PT with expertise in this can help tease out what is the likely cause and tailor treatment. The exercises for the swaying type are different than for the spinning type. Yes meclizine can make things worse.

Unfortunately sometimes the swaying thing is from something in the brain, and the exercises are for things going on in the ears/vestibular system.

I see a neurologist for vestibular migraine. Your symptoms sound the same. They can help you manage with medication. Check the comments from people on this site who have vestibular migraine. You may find some helpful info. I did. I completely understand what you are going through.
