I have a mass on my kidney
Hello all,
36M. I have noticed that I have some pain on my flank for some time but alwyas took an anti biotic and felt better. Anyway, yesterday I had a really bad abdominal pain like I have never felt before.
Went to the ER, did a CT scan and was told I have a mass/lump on my kidney. I'm in a lot of pain. My family lives outside the US, parents are elderly and my entire world has been turned upside down.
I'll be getting a biopsy soon to know but I'm in so much pain. Was prescribed Tramadol but it's so bad and I can't go back to ER for pain meds because they ignored me.
I've been crying. I feel so alone and helpless to face this fight.

When kidney mass was detected the first doctor said kidney has to be removed. I was upset and after few hours my brother and me discussed and decided to go to another 3 doctors for second opinion. We went to second doctor he was excellent doctor but very commercial. He said to do a pet scan again. We went to third doctor which is a charitable hospital. The doctor was excellent and said there is a 70 percent chance that only partial nephrectomy will solve. We were satisfied and i will undergo surgery here. We went for fourth doctor he was excellent and said 70 percent kidney is good and partial nephrectomy will solve. This was a private hospital. Finally I decided and undergone surgery in charitable hospital. Its very good they successfully done surgery and discharged in 4 days. I believe in god and with his blessings i happy and recoverd 80 percent in 70 days
Always a good idea to get other opinions and go with best information you have.
In my case my best friend is a doctor, although his specialty is internal medicine. I asked for his opinion on all medical matters, even though I have my own oncologist and urologist.
@chucklesintx, it is so hard to be alone during a medical crisis. Have you had the biopsy? Any news? How are you doing?
Hi Colleen,
I'm going ahead with surgery. I'll be seeing a surgeon on the 16th and i'll be having further tests to characterize the tumor and then we can have a surgery plan. I also have a second opinion scheduled so i just have to fortify my mind right now until I know more.
It's tough but if i'm going to beat this, I have to be tougher and i plan to be.
Thank you so much
This too shall pass!!!
Thank you. Saying that this is hard is an understatement.
Getting a diagnosis at 36 is life altering. Thinking about my struggles in life and how things will never be the same again. I pray I live to be 50. I hope I can have children, I hope I can see my kids graduate high school. I hope I can see them graduate college. It's a lot to deal with.
