I feel like giving up
I don’t think my GP fully understands peripheral neuropathy and therefore is unable to offer treatment advice. He eventually got me to see a nhs neurologist who seemed to dismiss my condition as fairly minor. I do not have medical insurance so where do I go. My condition is slowly getting worse.

Hi @bigjohnscho, Sorry to hear that your condition is getting worse and you haven't been able to find anything that provides relief. It is discouraging to say the least when you get to see a neurologist only to have them dismiss your condition as minor. I'm assuming the neurologist didn't have any suggestions to help you find some relief.
You have probably mentioned it before but do you mind sharing what symptom bothers you the most?
Dont give up...wait
I felt of that before too
Have you tried making adjustments to your diet? Look into it, there are many causes of distal neuropathies and many can be traced back to metabolic dysfunction including insulin resistance and prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes.
Welcome @lisette, I’ve also made some diet and lifestyle changes that I think have helped some with my idiopathic small fiber neuropathy. Good possibility mine might be connected to the metabolic syndrome.
What type of neuropathy do you have?
Burning feet and lower legs. Burning gradually moving higher, currently up to my knees
Does anyone have borderline Type 2 diabetes. Do you take any supplements that help
Hi,
I believe bigjohnscho is asking for ideas how he might get the medical attention he needs, understanding that he does not currently have insurance.
Bigjohnscho, If you are a veteran, I wonder if they might offer resources.
Keep in touch and don't give up!
Anybody have any ideas?
As was stated earlier, don't give up. John, our volunteer mentor, is extremely knowledgable and very helpful. Both in information to read from experts in the field and over the counter and prescription medicines that help many. I know how you feel as my, well educated and highly paid, neurologist was worthless in terms of providing what to do next. Individuals participating in Mayo Connect has provided information that has helped me address certain things that I have done that have helped me and can help you also!
Don't give up!
I'm not sure about any specific supplement to address borderline type 2 diabetes but I started eating healthier after reading Dr. Terry Wahls story and buying her book, The Wahls Protocol - https://terrywahls.com/about/#DrTerryWahls. She now sells vitamins but I haven't purchased any and just not sure I would focus on vitamins unless there was a deficiency and I discussed it with my doctor. Her life story of her symptoms with MS is amazing and I think was mostly done through diet.
Another good one discussing low carb and healthy diet is Dr. Jay Wortman. He has a couple of good videos but I think this one is one of the better ones - Dr Jay Wortman Diabetes Remission is Surprisingly Simple!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx6xw3wOAMc
