What vitamins to avoid when taking Hydrea (hydroxyurea) for ET JAK2?
I currently have essential thrombocythemia with the JAK2 gene mutation. I currently take 500 mg of hydra seven times a week. I’m supposed to take two doses three times a week which I’m not doing any longer because my platelet counts have fallen back to 418. What kind of vitamins should you avoid while taking hydra i.e. multivitamins vitamin D vitamin K etc. has anyone had any issues with taking vitamins with this chemo drug?

Hi,
I started Hydrea 9 months ago.
I take vitamin D, vitamins B, Biotin, and vitamin C when needed.
I haven’t had any reactions from the vitamins with Hydrea.

4 ReactionsOn HU since October 2023, I also take a multivitamin, an AREDS vitamin to protect vision, and a calcium/vitamin D supplement for my bones. I'm a 71 year old woman with ET, MPL mutation.
My oncologist has no objections to those supplements.
We are all different, though! It's always best to ask your doctor what's OK for you.

2 ReactionsDuring COVID, oncology suggested a multivit as a way to boost immunity. (This was before the COVID vax was available.) I was taking hydroxyurea at that time. No problems, so I kept taking my multivit.
I did go off the multivit between blood checks (every three months). Going off the multivit made no diff in labs this month, so I went back on them. They seem to improve energy a bit.

4 ReactionsI take Hydrea (2x500g a day) and also vitamin D, Bluberry pills for eyes and Berberine (this every second day). I would not take Biotin, for my kidneys are in insuffisance (Dfg 59).

2 ReactionsOncology Doctor has me on Iron and B12 I also take Biotin and a Super B complex. Take Hydra 500mg x 7 daily. Along with my other medications I think the iron gives me issues but usually after breakfast but only for the first hour of the day I take the iron on an empty stomach.

5 Reactions@nande Hi!
That’s a question that I plan to ask my hematologist when I see him next month. I am on Hydro, 500 mg daily, my platelets are at 345, so I hope I can maybe reduce the dosage to take a pill every other day. I wonder if taking a vitamin supplement would help with the fatigue I am experiencing after being on the medication!
Anyone feeling better after starting taking a multivitamin??
Thank you!!

Hi
Does your Dr tell you to take iron on an empty stomach ? It can be tough on the stomach.
We all keep on and trying to do what is best for our lives.
You’re doing well and keep strong. Blessings every day
