Did they give you a BIRADS number? It is hard waiting! I hope you get the biopsy soon! Many of us have been there and are doing fine. I am 9 years out. Before I knew anything I watched a lot of Netflix and got a small prescription for Ativan which I didn't use but it helped to have it!

Sorry to hear about your mass. The waiting game is so hard. 75% - 80% of breast biopsies are benign. I'll pray that is the case for you. If not, you've come to the right forum for support and guidance from many others that are or have been in a similar situation.

I am a male and, at age 81, had a large breast tumor and 3 positive axillary nodes removed by a great surgeon at the MN Mayo Clinic. Pre-op PET scan was negative. I went into the hospital at 6:30 a.m. and was wheeled back to my hotel by 3 p.m. It is not brain surgery!!! Hopefully you will have Onco-Type Dx testing of a sample of the tumor tissue to determine whether you will need chemo. I had a very low score. My surgeon and I had an agreement that she would remove only the positive nodes, and I would then have proton radiation to treat any cells that still lingered in the chest and axillary area. As a result, I did not have lymphedema. Had cording that was resolved through PT. I have been on Tamoxifen since 6/21. I write this narrative to help you be less worried and more realistic. It's not rocket science. Talk to your physician(s) about your treatment plan. Be calm and trust your surgeon. That trust is most important!! Good luck.

I found that talking with trusted friends and family members about my fears helped to lessen them and reduced the time I worried alone. Good luck

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I am a 68 year old male, and a 7+ year survivor. I can relate to your anxiety. The early days after diagnosis with little detail available to put your fears to rest are the worst. Find a way to clear your mind, stay active. You can beat this.

Sadly, we can mitigate our chances of getting cancer with all of our lifestyle choices, but that doesn’t eliminate them. I lived in the country, and a very active lifestyle. Also very conservative lifestyle, but was diagnosed in my 30’s with breast cancer. Genetics played a large role for me. Unfortunately, many of us never know why we get cancer. Have you had relatives that have or had cancer?
