Hypothyroidism vs Hashimoto’s

Posted by auntieheid @auntieheid, Nov 29, 2020

Hi! I’m new here and hoping this can be explained, in layman’s terms, the difference betwixt Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s. A few months back, my primary said that I may have bumped up to Hashimoto’s due to my blood labs. Is there much of a difference? And, are bith considered autoimmune diseases? Thank you for any responses! Have a great day!

Has anyone ever heard of elevated TPO with low Anti-TG but normal thyroid levels.
I am completely symptomatic with 30 weight gain since October, hair loss and extreme fatigue.

Yes, they’re both autoimmune diseases. You can have Hashimoto’s without a thyroid condition. Unfortunately, I have both. I suffer from Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism and take Synthroid for the Thyroid. Before being diagnosed, I was gaining weight by the day, loosing my hair and had a hoarse voice, along with body bloating. To help rid my body of the bloating, I stopped eating gluten, dairy and soy. It is a game changer. I also have no taste or smell from Covid over 2 years ago, which has been awful! There is a book by a doctor Isabella Wentz on Hashimoto’s that has been a great help. I would suggest you get the book, it isn’t expensive, but it will help you understand Hashimoto’s. Good luck on your health journey!
