Hyperthyroidism: Share your experiences
Hi, I just found this forum and hope to get some shared experience. My wife (age 50) has low TSH 0.11 ulU/Ml, Free T4 at 1.49 ng/dL (range 0.89-1.76 ng/dL). Free T3 4.40 pg/Ml (range 2.3-4.20 pg/Ml) (elevated). She lost 10 lbs and has trouble sleeping which is why her PCP ordered such tests. Her PCP wants her to see an endocrinologist. we are in process of setting this up.
But I wonder if anyone has had similar issue and can share your experience on seeing doctor and treatments (what works and what doesn't). Even we are going to rely on the doctor, we want to research as much as we can before seeing doctor with questions ready. thank you so much.

I forgot to mention I have hypertension so of course the anxiety is affecting my blood pressure
I have a history of hyperthyroidism / Graves Disease (about 25 years ago). I was treated with methimazole. My endocrinologist told me that hyperthyroidism can change to hypothyroidism over time. I have never heard of the opposite happening (Hypothyroidism switching to Hyperthyroidism.)
I was on methimazole for about 4 years; then my Dr. discontinued it but continues to monitor me. My labs are still normal.

Hi I don’t know all my details. But I would love to keep up with your outcome. I’m 69 and I think I had hypo about 8 years ago. My PCP put me on 25 mcg of synthroid. I took it once daily for 8 years. I have been in excellent health over those 8 years. 6 months ago I experienced shaking and high blood pressure. From the end of February this year up today I have been experiencing all the symptoms of my agitated depression, which I was diagnosed with 10 years ago. I’ve been in remission from that over the last 10 years. PCP had my blood work done in January and late March. Both results showed normal thyroid levels. So i found a psychiatric doc who started treating my relapse of agitated depression. The best part of finding this psychiatric doc, was she noticed on my lab work, that my free T 4 was slightly high. She told me that this could be contributing to my anxiety symptoms. She got in contact with my PCP and hopefully tomorrow someone will lower my synthroid med. I have lost 20+ lbs, I weighed 135 on February 18. No appetite, having trouble sleeping for 8 weeks. Your email caught my attention when you asked how long before your anxiety starts to settle. I would love to know that as well. I’m so nervous waiting for my online call with this new psychiatric doc tomorrow. Please reply
