Hylauronic Gel Injections in the Knees...Anyone?
I had Hylauronic Gel Injections in my knees for arthritis back in December to help with lubricating the joints and to keep from getting so many cortisone injections for the pain. One knee is bone on bone.
It has helped greatly with the pain in my knees (so grateful!), BUT, my knees feel heavy and have gotten so stiff since the injections.
I asked the doctor about it and he said it happens at the onset but goes away quickly.....mine hasn't.
Anyone else had this issue?
Thank you and God Bless You All!

@covidstinks2023 I was fine until the 3rd injection. Just shy of two weeks since I got it and stiffness and pain is horrible. Starting a round of steroids today and hope it will bring me some relief. Not able to do anything 😔

2 Reactions@sjandre I am so sorry. I asked a different PA before my last injections of Cortistone about the
gel injections and she told me they could cause stiffness. I did not get a repeat set done
this month. She explained that the gel cannot spread out all over the knee, but, just in a
certain area of the knee. I have gotten so much stiffer in my knees since I did the gel
injections.
Praying for you that the steroids help. Blessings....

1 ReactionI have arthritis throughout my body which until recently I’ve dealt with very well ., stretch , workout , walk and. Very active . I recently acquired a torn miniscus in my left knee along with with arthritis . I had one gel shot and did PT and was doing OK now I’ve developed pain in my knee again . The MD said my next visit she would give a cortisone shot .
Anyone have similar situation ?
I also felt that my knee was heavy and stiff after each injection, but the physician who injected hyaluronic acid in my knees told me that during a week or so after the injection I had to make sure that I walk/keep my knee moving so it will reduce the lack of flexibility experienced after each injection. It has worked for me.

2 ReactionsI suspect that it's hard to get the acid in exactly the right spot, so some of this may depend on the skill of the person who is doing the injecting.

1 Reaction@sjandreme too
Me too..same situation. The 3rd PRP shot was???? IFFY
I have not had stiffness with the gel injections, but I did have some swelling and a reaction in the veins in my ankle in the leg receiving the injections. Seems that the actual act of the needle injection might have caused me problems. My doctors were a little concerned, and I had 2 ultrasounds to check for blood clots.
I do walk alot and do walk right after the shot, Walking may keep me from the stiffness problem but may be causing me a problem with irritating the injection spot and leading to my swelling, vein reaction. Ha, we can't win can we.
Something that has helped my husband and myself is a supplement called Cartigenix HP, Hard to believe that a supplement could help bone on bone but the research seems to show that it helps with inflammation with a decrease in symptoms and a seeming improvement in the knee as seen in xrays. Plus, my disbelieving husband that nothing ever helps says that it is helping him. My husband' s almost constant shooting pain has gone away and he can now lower himself to the floor easily without that irritating dropping to the floor action.

1 ReactionI had three injections and they helped me tremendously. The stiffness and heaviness I felt temporarily was pretty much the same I had been experiencing with already existing joint dysfunction. That supplement sounds like something I will look into as I have multiple joint issues. Thanks for sharing.

1 ReactionI had multiple hyaluronic injections in my knees for pain. I never felt the stiffness others mention but they did not help my pain at all. Only eventual replacement of both knees gave pain relief. I had my replacements in 2008 and 2009 and both knees have been pain free since.
