@reneemc This is a question to ask your pharmacist - they have the best information on dosing efficacy, and should also know your other medications, in case any of them should not be taken at the same time as rifabutin.
Did they give you any counseling when you picked up the medication>

What are the dosage directions on the bottle?
If this given to me without instruction, I would call either the pharmacist of doctor for help.

The Rifabutin is 2 tablets once a day. I just wonder is it best with or without food and does it cause insomnia?

I'm not sure, and don't have the drug information at my fingertips. You can read about it here:
https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a693009.html

Medline Plus and WebMD are both good places to read up on new medications if the package insert with all the details is not given to you when you pick up the med.

I take my big 3 meds after lunch. The pharmacist said to take after largest meal. So far I’ve had no problems.
I read that the other one, Rifampin, needs to be taken on an empty stomach.

I’m taking the Azith, Rifabutin, and Ethambutol.

My pulmonologist told me take rifampin and ethambutol together with empty stomach once a day, take clarithromycin 500mg every 12 hours. So ,I take rif and ethambutol at morning when I get up,after an hour I take clarithromycin with food and other medications. I had the big3 already 1 year. I tolerate well, I eat some fermented food every day to avoid my digestive tract bacteria imbalance.I have being taken Arikayce inhaler 6 months,at first 2 months side effects was tough, but after that the side effects gradually disappeared I regained my appetite, energy, and crazy cough topped..I guess big portions of side effects were caused by allergies, after while boby will get use of it.

is it correct that you are taking the 3 drugs plus inhaled Arikayce? What were the "tough" side effects you experienced with the addition of Arikayce?

REPLY

Yes,I am taking the 3 drugs since January 2023. At July I started Arikayce. During the first two months of Arikayce treatment I had a severe cough with significantly increased phlegm production. Loss of appetite, tiredness, weakness. Itchy throat and hoarse voice。
